Cosmology and Structure
- Hongyuan consists of Nine Great Heaven Domains, each containing immeasurable layers of space-time, worlds, races, and cultivation environments 285 516.
- Luanxing Heaven is unique among the Nine Heavens: rather than a boundless land beneath a round sky, it is an endless Star Sea reshaped by an ancient Hongyuan titan 266.
- Other Heaven Domains are structured as ascending world-stairways. Cultivators from lower realms must break through successive shackles and, in some domains, survive thunder tribulations to reach higher heavens 285.
- Birth strongly affects one’s prospects in hierarchical Heaven Domains: those born in Jun Heaven receive vastly superior Dao fortune and resources than cultivators forced to ascend from mortal realms 285.
- Human civilization is Hongyuan’s dominant force, though its rise began only in the Third Tribulation and its foundations remain younger than those of the Shanhai Realm’s ancient races 423.
History
Before the Three Tribulations, the Shanhai Realm was part of Hongyuan. By the Fourth Tribulation, Shanhai had separated from the Hongyuan Dao and sought to replace it, turning the conflict into a struggle for the survival of both civilizations 274 417.
After the Fourth Tribulation, Shanhai Pass became the supreme military frontier. Outside powers were forbidden from bringing private grievances into the Pass; military merit became the sole basis for command and authority 417.
The conflict later escalated into a full-scale war. Shanhai’s Four Primordial Clans joined the offensive, forcing Hongyuan to conscript cultivators above the Dharma Image stage and defend the Ten Great Heaven Passes 423.
During the Fifth Tribulation, the Mountain-Sea Great Dao eroded the front-line passes and opened Boundary Fortune Arenas, where defeat could cost Hongyuan territory and Dao fortune 475 476. The Martial Ancestor’s Dao dispersion eventually shattered the Great Dao Heavenly Stele, removing the barriers that had restrained Shanhai’s advance and beginning the unification of Shanhai Pass with the Chaos Sea 514.
Hongyuan subsequently fell into widespread ruin. The Juhuo Sect’s betrayal enabled Shanhai to invade Huofen Heaven, while the Yuanshi Sect’s sacrificial points brought blood sacrifice and destruction to both Hongyuan and Shanhai 514 516.
Shanhai Pass
- A vast battlefield created by the alliance of the Myriad Heavens and Worlds to resist Shanhai’s invasion 423.
- Divided into Ten Great Heaven Passes, with warfare and military promotion governed by merit 417 500.
- The Great Dao Heavenly Stele was a temporary Dao Artifact forged from the Dao fortune of the Ten Passes. It suppressed the space-time of the Nine Great Heaven Passes and redirected Shanhai beings to their assigned fronts 512.
- The Stele’s barriers prevented Shanhai’s main armies from crossing Buzhou Mountain for two tribulations; stronger invaders faced increasingly severe Heavenly Punishment 512.
- The Stele weakened as Shanhai Pass fell and shattered after the Martial Ancestor dispersed his Dao, allowing Shanhai and Hongyuan space-time to begin merging 512 514.
Major Factions and Relationships
- Shanhai Realm — A former part of Hongyuan that became an opposing Great Dao civilization; its expansion threatens to replace the Hongyuan Dao itself 274 423.
- Heavenly Court — Hongyuan’s acknowledged foremost power and current common ruler, though its limited early participation in the war drew widespread dissatisfaction 435.
- New Hongyuan Alliance — Coalition defending Hongyuan against Shanhai after the collapse of Shanhai Pass’s barriers and the invasion of Huofen Heaven 514 515.
- Yuanshi Sect — A trans-realm threat that established sacrificial points in Hongyuan and Shanhai, promising resurrection and power at the cost of followers’ humanity 516.
- Juhuo Sect — A Hongyuan faction revealed as a Shanhai-backed traitor; it used two Dao Artifacts to suppress Huofen Heaven and enable the Desolate Gods’ invasion 514.
Fifth Tribulation Crisis
- Shanhai’s military pressure forced Hongyuan’s Heaven Domains to mobilize cultivators and prodigies for Shanhai Pass 417.
- The Boundary Fortune Arena transformed the war into a direct contest of Dao fortune between Hongyuan and Shanhai; combatants who died, lost, or fled advanced Shanhai’s territorial gains 476.
- Shanhai’s victories eroded territory from the Tenth through Sixth Heaven Passes and allowed the Mountain-Sea Great Dao to force open the arenas 475.
- Following the loss of the Great Dao Heavenly Stele, Shanhai space-time began merging with Hongyuan through the newly unified Tenth Domain 514.
- Ten years of turmoil left Hongyuan’s Heaven Domains in ruins, with forbidden beings, Extreme Daoists, and the Mountain-Sea Great Dao each consuming its territory and fortune 522.
