Background / History

Thor arrives in New Mexico after Mjolnir falls there, immediately recognizing it as his hammer and insisting that only he can lift it. He identifies himself as the Thunder God and future King of Asgard. 143

Loki manipulates Thor by claiming that Odin has died because of Thor's foolishness and that Thor has been permanently banished from Asgard. The news leaves Thor convinced that he is unworthy to succeed Odin. 145 Odin later allows Mjolnir to recognize Thor after Thor stands up for his brothers, enabling him to defeat the Destroyer. 147

Thor prepares to return to Asgard and stop Loki, but Bai Jing forces a confrontation over Mjolnir and threatens Jane Foster to prevent Thor from leaving. Thor repeatedly fails to strike Bai Jing with Mjolnir or lightning, then recklessly considers taking Jane through the Bifrost despite the danger to her body. 148 He subsequently joins the Avengers' attempt to confront Bai Jing. 149

He is also reckless, irritable, and impulsive—faults Odin explicitly recognizes in him.
