In the Fugen Tavern, Li Ke sat before Silco, savoring the fine wine Silco had smuggled from Bilgewater, downing it in one gulp.
Finn was dead. His subordinates discovered his body the next morning. His head was severed from his body, and his skull rolled to rest beside the wall. He had died gruesomely.
Li Ke looked at the man before him, whose gaze wasn't on him, and said with a smile:
"Uncle, you knew Finn would run from the very beginning?"
Silco withdrew his lingering gaze and looked at Li Ke, a faint smile on his lips. He said softly, "I understand him better than you do, Li Ke. After all, I worked with him for so many years."
"Back in the mine, he was always like this – arrogant, conceited, always thinking he was the smartest person. But in reality, he only had a bit of cunning, and he couldn't even use it in the right place."
Sevika stood silently behind Silco. She felt no emotion about personally killing Finn.
Although, when they were in the mine Silco often spoke of, her relationship with Finn hadn't been bad.
But Finn had crossed the line. Silco had given him chances, and not just one, yet he still made a mistake.
Replace Silco?
What was he thinking?
If not for Silco and Vander back then, they would still be digging coal in the mine today. How could they possibly have their current situation and status?
Although Sevika had "betrayed" Vander, the reason for her betrayal wasn't power or status. It was because Vander made her feel hopeless. When a hound retracts its claws, it becomes a house dog. That wasn't the kind of leader Sevika wanted.
Besides, she hadn't betrayed him; she had simply parted ways with Vander and then joined Silco.
"So he's dead, and you don't feel anything at all?"
"Hmm, how should I put this?" Silco elegantly placed his hands on the table, looking calmly at Li Ke. His eyes gazed into Li Ke's, and he said calmly, "He made a mistake, Li Ke."
"Actually, everyone makes mistakes. It's not a big deal. No matter how big the mistake, as long as there's remorse, it can be forgiven. No one is perfect. But we can't keep making the same mistake, can we?"
"Uncle, are you hinting at me right now?" Li Ke narrowed his eyes and said.
Silco's gaze shifted to the girl sleeping soundly on the sofa. The corners of his mouth curled up, and his eyes were gentle as he said, "What do you think?"
"Then you really are hinting at me."
"Since she doesn't want to come back to me, I won't force her. She seems happier with you. She's gained a little weight and her complexion looks better," Silco said suddenly.
He continued:
"And just as you said, Li Ke, whether I succeed or you succeed, the ultimate beneficiaries will be Zaun. There's no need for us to fight to the death. Our goals are the same, just our methods differ. And you were very right about one thing: during this period of pressure from Piltover, Zaun has indeed become too chaotic."
Silco tapped his index finger on the table, creating a rhythmic sound. "But that won't happen anymore."
Li Ke followed Silco's gaze and saw Jinx lying on the sofa. Asleep, her small mouth was slightly open, drool trickling from the corner. One foot rested on the sofa's backrest, one hand dangled outside the sofa, and the other lay on her stomach. She was sleeping soundly.
Suddenly, Jinx stirred. Both men looked at her. She tilted her small head, her entire head lolling off the sofa. Sleeping in such a position, Jinx was bound to wake up with a stiff neck.
Seeing this, Silco prepared to get up and adjust Jinx's position.
But Li Ke stood up a step faster. He was sitting by the table, closer to the sofa. Silco paused when he saw Li Ke rise, then narrowed his eyes.
He also stood up, then took off his neatly pressed suit, which had not a single wrinkle, folded it by hand, and handed it to Li Ke.
"Use this," he said to Li Ke.
Behind him, Sevika couldn't help but roll her eyes.
Damn it.
Before, only Silco doted on this crazy girl.
Now, it was different. Silco, Li Ke, and this crazy girl's Sister.
The people who doted on her, who cared for her, seemed to be increasing?
Sevika couldn't help but wonder what kind of Charm this girl possessed to make these people go to such lengths for her?
Silco and Li Ke were one thing. The former was the Zaun Godfather, and the latter was the man Sevika considered the strongest individual in Zaun right now. As for Vi, she was a woman Sevika acknowledged.
Even when Vi was young, Sevika felt the girl was unusual. Now that she had grown up, that fight had proven Sevika's thoughts correct.
Vi was a combat genius, a born fighter. Without Glow and Alchemical Limb, Sevika didn't think she could defeat Vi.
Li Ke looked at the clothes Silco handed him and nodded, accepting them.
He pressed down on the clothes, then walked over to Jinx. Crouching down, Li Ke carefully lifted her head, moving slowly and gently. He placed Silco's suit under Jinx's head. He looked at her again and saw that Jinx was sleeping soundly. Li Ke couldn't help but reach out and pinch her small nose.
"Mmm," Jinx frowned. She reached out and swatted at the air in front of her, mumbling softly.
"You damn snot-nose, daring to block my nose, do you want to fight?!"
"I'll tell my father on you."
"Silco, hurry up and teach it a lesson!"
Li Ke listened to Jinx's sleep-talking and felt a pang of jealousy.
Damn, if only it was my name she was calling out here.
Then I could show off to Silco!
But, I shouldn't be too greedy.
When he first met Jinx, the name Jinx mumbled most in her sleep was naturally Vi's. Next was Silco, then Vander, and finally... it would be Li Ke.
But in recent days, Jinx has been calling his name more and more in her sleep, which is enough to make Li Ke happy.
This represents Li Ke's growing importance in Jinx's heart.
Getting up, Li Ke sat back down in front of Silco.
Jinx's behavior was just a small interlude, but because of her, two men with different paths, who should have been enemies, were able to sit together and talk.
When Li Ke returned to his seat and looked at Silco, he saw that the Zaun Godfather, always known for his cruelty and inhumanity in Zaun, was currently looking at Jinx with a doting gaze, a gaze that was too much. Honestly, Silco's eyes for Jinx could squeeze out water.
This was definitely a Silco no one else had ever seen.
"You're right, she does call my name in her dreams," Silco said, looking at Li Ke. "Did you hear what she called me just now?"
"."
"Silco, if you want to laugh, then laugh, damn it. I won't mock you," Li Ke sighed.
Silco smiled. This was probably the first time he had shown a genuine smile in front of Li Ke. He looked at Li Ke and said to him in front of Sevika, "You guessed right, she is my weakness."
Damn it, that old geezer got to show off!
Li Ke looked at Silco and recalled what Silco had just said, then spoke:
"What you said to me earlier, you said our methods are different, but our goals are the same. I say, Uncle, if Daddy Vander were still alive, how good would it have been if you had understood this?"
Li Ke spoke very sincerely.
Only after he took charge of the Lian Hua Gang did he understand what Vander had done, and how hard and great Vander had been.
If Vander could have joined forces with Silco to fight against Piltover, if they could have united and cooperated, then Zaun would definitely not be the way it is now.
Zaun needed Silco, but it also needed Vander.
Silco fell silent. After a moment, he spoke, "I can understand him now, but I still don't believe his path was correct. Your paths are similar, but different."
"You are more capable and bolder than him. You are both gentle towards the common people of Zaun, but he fawned over Piltover and became a house dog. Li Ke, you are different. I can see that you have no intention of being Piltover's dog."
"If he were still alive, I would sincerely apologize to him and tell him that having a daughter is indeed quite troublesome. I understand his thoughts now, but without independence, all of this is in vain. His weakness will only bring greater trouble to his daughter, and his compromise will not allow Jinx and Vi to stand in the sun," Silco said calmly.
"I will not be bound by the past, because all I want is the present."
"The dead live in memories, the living must look forward."
"What I want is for Jinx to be able to stand in the sun, to live a normal life."
The atmosphere turned a bit cold.
But just as Li Ke and Silco were locked in a silent gaze, a groggy voice rang out.
"That's not food, Li Ke, you grabbed the wrong thing, those are my feet."
"They don't stink! And if you say my feet stink, I'll beat you to death!"
"I wash my feet,"
"My shoes are very breathable!"
"Don't touch my feet. It tickles!"
"Mmm, Muddy Frogs are really delicious, nom nom~"
The atmosphere shifted from cold to hot. Silco's gaze towards Li Ke grew increasingly dangerous.
Meanwhile, Li Ke was incredibly embarrassed.
He even noticed that Sevika's eyes were looking at him strangely.
"Uncle, I, I just, I just washed Jinx's feet, I didn't do anything, do you believe me?"
"Guess if I believe you?" Silco sneered.
