At three in the morning, many people in Zaun were still awake, and the wastewater pipe project was still underway.
It was incredibly disruptive, truly. The rumbling overhead shook the residential buildings, and the noise was deafening, yet not a single person came out to curse them.
Not one of them harbored any resentment, either.
Quite a few Zaunites carried flashlights, voluntarily serving as sources of light to help illuminate the worksite. Food and water sat at their feet as they watched the construction.
Whenever a shift changed and workers still wearing protective suits crawled out of the pipes, people immediately rushed over to help wash them off with water and hand them food.
"It's almost done. In another hour, all the wastewater pipes in the Sump will have been successfully renovated."
Inside the Lian Hua Gang's house, Vi had woken from a nap and resumed preparing for work. She spoke excitedly.
Though she was deeply annoyed that Silco was in the same room, Vi endured it. After all, today was a big day!
"We can start preparing," Ekko said. "Activate the device, then... see the results." There was a trace of unease in his voice.
Heimerdinger was eating pastries nearby. Hearing that, he said, "Don't rush, child. Steady progress is the best way to avoid problems."
"The root cause has been dealt with. Next, we only need to handle matters at home."
Everyone chatted as they waited for time to pass. Li Ke was also struggling to contain himself—not because Jinx was asleep against him, but because he, too, was eager to see Zaun's air truly purified.
This was the second biggest thing he had done since coming to this world.
And the first, of course, was what Li Ke believed to be changing Jinx's future.
"Boss!"
