Background / History

Kendi served as a guard on Bloodfang Island, where his marksmanship was recognized as among the best of the guards, second only to Donahue's. He initially rejected Captain Laurie's offer to join Jiang Chuan's elite force, preferring a quiet life after the death of Jack, a younger companion he believed he had failed to save. 22

Before the Dark Sea Throne's rise, Kendi, Laurie, Jack, and other operatives undertook a dangerous infiltration mission for the Bloodfang Gang. After a traitor exposed them, Jack and the captured team members detonated explosives to enable Kendi and Laurie to escape. Kendi was severely injured in the blast and remained consumed by guilt over being unable to save Jack. 22

Laurie convinced Kendi that Jack would not want him to become “a useless bum who only sleeps and drinks.” Kendi subsequently joined Jiang Chuan's hundred-man First Army, an elite formation built around discipline and unity. 22

Kendi leads the Dark Sea Throne's first assassination mission. He develops the plan with Malz, Bruno, and Laurie, then helps deceive Kote at the Shadow Elf Bar while Malz and Bruno kill the target and stage the scene as the work of a serial killer. 23 24

Kendi collaborates with Kate on a plan to infiltrate the Iron Anchor Gang leader's residence, obtain a warehouse key, and support a wider First Army assault. After the victory, he retrieves the warehouse key, discovers the map-bearing scroll, and carries it back to Jiang Chuan. He then implements Jiang Chuan's order to distribute seized wealth as food for the slums. 34
