Background / History

Jiang Chuan originally lived on Earth. After graduating from university, he worked a relatively relaxed job and spent much of his free time gaming. During a rainstorm on his birthday, he helped a lost girl reach a police station before being struck and killed by lightning. His parents later adopted the orphaned girl, allowing his fading soul to leave Earth with peace of mind. 1

A second lightning strike carried Jiang Chuan's soul to Bilgewater, where he awakened in the wounded body of Roland. He retained both his own memories and Roland's, including knowledge of Bilgewater and Roland's unpaid debts. Unable to immediately return home, he resolved to survive, accumulate resources, and eventually find a way back to Earth. 2

Jiang Chuan adopted the name Roland in Runeterra, partly to conceal his true origin. He later openly identifies himself to selected allies as a Summoner whose power can forcibly bring beings from anywhere in the world to his location. 28 36

Personality

Jiang Chuan is pragmatic, ambitious, and intensely goal-driven. His desire to return to Earth motivates his conquest of Bilgewater, industrial projects, alliances, and pursuit of the World Runes. He treats information, technology, manpower, and territory as resources needed for that goal. 3 21 27

Despite his willingness to use intimidation, assassinations, executions, and gang warfare, he is protective of children and ordinary people under his care. After taking Bloodfang Island, he prioritizes freeing trafficked children, educating them, finding their families, and offering work to impoverished Bilgewater residents. 6 11 27 43

He prefers careful preparation over direct confrontation when possible. His campaigns rely on intelligence gathering, disciplined troops, traps, firearms, and technological advantages rather than his own physical combat ability. 17 40 50
