"Mm..." Sitting beside the campfire, Guan Heng stretched lazily and muttered, "Better not think about Cheng Ying anymore. When the time comes, it'll leave its sheath and case, slaughtering in all directions. I should think about myself instead."
Staring blankly at the fire, Guan Heng thought, Should I go to New York City to find Iron Man, or sign up with some other righteous superhero organization? Hehe, no matter which side I join, I'd only be a follower behind them, waving flags and cheering. I'd never amount to anything in my life. At that thought, he looked at his fists. I don't want to be used by either side. I'll fight for my own place in this world, and I'll become my own hero! I'll show these people that a black-haired, black-eyed hero can not only be their equal, but even stronger than them!
Besides, everyone should live according to their own will rather than be controlled by others. "Tony, heh heh, the day we meet will have to be postponed. I'll repay you for that injection sooner or later." As he spoke, Guan Heng rubbed his neck. "Damn it, it still seems to hurt a little. That damned tin monkey."
After a long and dusty journey of nearly seven hundred kilometers on foot, Guan Heng finally arrived in New York City. Tall buildings stood everywhere, stylish men and women filled the streets, and cars and pedestrians flowed endlessly. Guan Heng sighed, "It really is a big city. Since coming to this world, I don't think I've ever been to a major city. The place with the most people I saw along the way was Bone Town." Having arrived somewhere unfamiliar, survival immediately became a pressing issue. First, he had to solve his food and lodging problems—especially the food part. As he walked through the streets, Guan Heng considered how his improved physical condition and intense exercise had caused his appetite to skyrocket.
He casually bought a newspaper and checked the classified ads for decent jobs.
"Hmm, collecting debts for a finance company? No way. I'm a newly minted superhero, after all. How could I do something so low-class? New York City garbage mountain, waste disposal worker... Ugh, just looking at it makes me want to throw up. Ah, this one's not bad." Guan Heng finally found a job he could tolerate. Though the pay was nothing special, it clearly stated that food and lodging were provided.
Thus, Guan Heng went to Gao's Chinese Restaurant in the 13th District and became a waiter and food delivery courier.
Only after starting work did he learn that the owner, Old Man Gao, was unbelievably stingy and endlessly nagging. Whenever he got the chance, he would pick faults with his employees, and he could scold someone for ten hours without repeating himself once. Guan Heng thoroughly experienced it during his employment, but at least he had food and a place to sleep.
In addition, Guan Heng read all kinds of newspapers almost every day, searching for news of zombies attacking humans. However, aside from the report some time ago about zombies biting people in Bone Town, there was nothing else. Either it had never happened at all, or someone was deliberately covering it up. Guan Heng had always been suspicious of this. He felt that the state of this world was unusually oppressive, as though an even larger dark cloud hung over it.
That afternoon, the busy hours arrived again.
"Here! These pan-fried dumplings and fried rice are for delivery to the 5th District. Move faster, and don't you dare steal a bite!" Old Man Gao roared impatiently. "They have to be delivered within half an hour! If you're late, be careful—I'll dock your pay!"
"Yes, yes, yes. Don't worry." Guan Heng jogged out of the Chinese Restaurant. He never rode the electric scooters the restaurant provided for delivery workers. For one thing, those things were slower than he was on foot. For another, he wanted to familiarize himself with the streets and train his body.
"Huff, huff, huff... one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, la la la..." Guan Heng hummed as he ran. As he passed an alley, he suddenly heard strange noises from inside. Curious, he went over to take a look.
Smack! Bang! "Ouch!" Several dyed-hair punks wearing nose rings and earrings, their bodies covered in tattoos, had gathered around a frail boy and were kicking and punching him. "Damn it, Peter, you run damn fast! You made me chase you for half a street! Why were you running? Hand over your money!"
"Stop hitting me! I-I don't have any money..." The bespectacled boy covered his face and head, cowering in the corner against the wall. A pile of books lay scattered across the ground.
Meanwhile, in an office, an assistant placed a detailed report onto Nick Fury's desk.
"Director, this is all the information we currently have on Guan Heng."
Nick Fury nodded. "Tell me the details."
"Yes. According to our current investigation, his most recent entry record shows that he boarded a plane near the Himalayan Region and entered the United States directly. After getting off the plane, he accidentally became involved in a fight with a professional Killer. He displayed extremely impressive close-quarters combat ability. Because he used strange powers at the end, the police detained him and held him at the Bone Town police station."
"On X month X day," the assistant continued after turning a page, "monsters that attacked humans appeared in Bone Town. Their physical characteristics were basically identical to the zombies we had been Tired of Dealing With. However, Guan Heng broke open the iron door of the holding cell and used his powers, along with some strange yellow paper talismans, to eliminate the zombies."
"At present, Guan Heng has entered New York City and is working at a Chinese Restaurant. He has shown no unusual movements or extreme behavior." The assistant put away the documents. "That concludes the investigation. Report complete."
Nick Fury nodded. "Mm. Do not make contact with this person for now. Send someone to observe him in secret and report the surveillance results regularly and on time. I want to understand all of his abilities before making any further plans."
The scene returned to the alley. When Guan Heng reached its entrance, the punks were still threatening Peter. "Brat, if you don't hand over the money, I'll break your legs and turn you into a cripple!" "Hey, hey, hey, how can you bully someone right in front of me?" Guan Heng stepped forward, his face full of displeasure. "I hate trouble the most, but I can't just ignore this. Stop right now!"
The punks exchanged looks, then suddenly burst out laughing. "Perfect timing! Hand over your money too!" the leader shouted.
Guan Heng sneered and punched the concrete wall beside him. Bang! A deep hole immediately appeared in it. "I don't have money, but I do have a pair of Fists. Want them?"
The punks stared wide-eyed. Guan Heng roared, "Get lost before I lose my temper! Don't let me see you again!" Hearing this, as if granted a heavenly pardon, the punks turned and ran. "Mom! A m-monster!"
Guan Heng ran over to the boy and helped him up. "Hey, are you all right? Are you hurt badly?"
The punks fled desperately through the shabby alleys. Guan Heng's destructive punch had truly frightened them badly. But the leading boss suddenly stepped into empty air and fell into an uncovered manhole. Plop! Plop! "Oh, damn!" One after another, all of them fell in due to their momentum.
"Today's just been rotten luck!" The boss was the first to struggle to his feet at the bottom of the well. In the darkness, he fumbled for the ladder fixed to the wall, hoping to climb out. Instead, he touched an icy-cold face, with two Fangs at its lips.
"AAAAAH!" Screams kept rising from the bottom of the well. A few minutes later, there was no more sound. Only a strange scent of blood seemed to drift faintly through the air. New book uploaded, please support with votes and favorites~
