Background / History

Yukino was originally an ordinary human and Sobu High School student from the influential Yukinoshita family. Though academically gifted and highly capable, she spent much of her life measuring herself against her elder sister Haruno, whose social ability and accomplishments left Yukino feeling perpetually overshadowed. 11 19

At the beginning of the school year, Yukino's buried Sacred Gear reacts to a near-accident. Her emotions cause a sudden drop in temperature that freezes the car's tires to the ground, preventing a collision but exposing the danger of her uncontrolled power. 9

She is later attacked and critically wounded by Vaden, a fallen angel sent to kill her because of the Sacred Gear within her. Leo intervenes, defeats Vaden, and reincarnates Yukino as a devil in his peerage. Though initially distressed at losing her humanity, she accepts the reality of her new life and begins training to control both her demonic power and Sacred Gear. 6 9 12

Yukino gradually finds purpose in devil work, answering summoners' requests and becoming reliable enough to develop repeat clients despite her blunt manner. She also becomes increasingly detached from her former human routine, living and training at Leo's manor. 18 52
