Background / History
Frieza ruled most of the universe through the Frieza Force. The Saiyans served as his planet-conquering troops: they exterminated native populations so their worlds could be sold to other civilizations. Fearing Saiyan potential, Frieza destroyed Planet Vegeta and exterminated the race while preserving a false explanation for its destruction. 95 103 109
After learning that Namek's Dragon Balls could grant three wishes, Frieza traveled there seeking immortality and an additional five centimeters of height. Rather than invade openly, he arrived with only Zarbon, Dodoria, Berryblue, and a small escort, presenting himself to Elder Muri as a “real estate tycoon.” He traded technology and resources for Dragon Balls, reasoning that coercion could lead the Namekians to destroy the Dragon Balls or sabotage the wishes. Within three days, he had peacefully acquired five. 101 102
Vegeta and Nappa disrupted Frieza's plans by killing Dodoria and Zarbon, stealing the Dragon Balls, and hiding from Scouters. Frieza responded by summoning the Ginyu Force, recognizing that his ordinary soldiers were incapable of handling Vegeta after his sudden growth. 105 107
Frieza captured Vegeta and Nappa through the Ginyu Force, subjected them to torture, then manipulated Vegeta into accepting a recovery and duel. He revealed his transformations, defeated Vegeta's Great Ape form, and allowed Captain Ginyu to take Vegeta's body before killing Vegeta in Ginyu's body. 109 110 111 112
Sun Mo's group arranged for Frieza's wishes to be granted, publicly increasing his height by five centimeters. Enraged that his carefully planned secret was exposed, Frieza attacked Sun Wukong and later Sun Mo. He initially dominated Wukong while limiting himself to 20% and then 50% of his power, but Sun Mo's Super Saiyan transformation reversed the battle completely. 113 116 117 118 119
Following his defeat on Namek, Frieza was confined in Other World's Heaven, a punishment King Yemma identifies as personal “Hell” because Frieza remained evil and unrepentant. 179
Frieza was later revived on Earth when Sorbet and Tagoma forced the Pilaf Gang to summon Shenron. Rather than immediately reclaiming the Frieza Force's lost territory, Frieza withdrew to Planet 64 and trained for four months to surpass Sun Wukong, Sun Mo, and Vegeta. 204 205
After returning to Earth with over a thousand Frieza Force soldiers, Frieza sought revenge by threatening to kill the Saiyans' friends. He slaughtered his own defeated soldiers, severely injured Gohan, and confronted Vegeta. Frieza's Golden form overwhelmed Super Saiyan God Vegeta, but Super Saiyan Blue Sun Wukong defeated him decisively. 207 208 209 210 211 214
Unable to accept defeat, Frieza attempted to destroy Earth. Sun Mo prevented the attack and sent him away, after which Frieza was ultimately killed completely by Sun Mo's ki blast. His soul was again wrapped in a cocoon and tormented by Heavenly Elves in Myriad Flower Grove. 214 215
Appearance
Frieza is initially depicted as petite enough to use a hoverchair. His ultimate form is smaller than his previous transformations, with a refined, streamlined build and pure white skin. 101 111
- Crimson eyes and a long tail. 107 116
- His second and third forms become substantially larger and more monstrous. 110
- His fourth/final form is described as elegant, ruthless, and physically refined despite its smaller size. 111
- He gains exactly five centimeters in height through the Namekian Dragon Balls. 112 113
- His Golden Frieza transformation covers his streamlined body in a radiant golden coloration and aura. 210
Personality
Frieza combines vanity, cruelty, and calculation. He maintains the cultivated image of a refined gentleman, speaking politely and exercising patience when diplomacy offers a safer path to his goal. His Namek campaign shows that he prefers reliable outcomes over needless violence when Dragon Ball wishes are at stake. 101 102 106
His composure deteriorates when his authority or self-image is challenged. Vegeta's theft of the Dragon Balls makes him abandon his elegance, while the public exposure of his height wish provokes immediate killing intent toward Sun Mo and Sun Wukong. 107 113
Frieza is deeply hostile toward Saiyans. He dismisses them as “wild monkeys,” admits that they have historically been dangerous, and ultimately declares that all Saiyans must die. Sun Mo identifies this hatred as rooted in Frieza's fear of Saiyan and Super Saiyan potential. 116 119
After his resurrection, Frieza's humiliation and desire for revenge force a major change in his attitude toward power. Previously unwilling to train because of his overwhelming natural talent, he diligently trains for four months and uses Tagoma as a sparring partner to improve. 204 205
Despite this new discipline, Frieza remains ruthlessly contemptuous of weakness. He dismisses the modern Frieza Force as useless and murders his own incapacitated soldiers after they fail against Earth's fighters. 208 209
Abilities & Skills
Transformations
Frieza possesses several transformation stages, allowing him to release progressively greater power without beginning at his full strength. 110 111
- His fourth/final form gives him enough speed to evade Great Ape Vegeta completely and strike before Vegeta can react. 111
- He later fights Sun Wukong at 20% and 50% of his power, then raises his output to 70% against Sun Mo. 116 117 118
- His forms and raw power are insufficient against Super Saiyan Sun Mo, whose transformed strength overwhelms him. 118 119
- Following four months of training after his resurrection, he develops Golden Frieza, a form powerful enough to overwhelm Super Saiyan God Vegeta. 205 210 211
- Golden Frieza's power is unstable because Frieza has not fully adapted to the transformation, enabling Super Saiyan Blue Sun Wukong to defeat him with a single punch. 214
Death Beam and Death Rays
Frieza fires narrow, highly concentrated energy beams from his fingers.
- Death Beams pierce Vegeta's Great Ape body and later kill Vegeta while he inhabits Ginyu's body. 111 112
- He can unleash volleys of Death Rays capable of devastating large stretches of Namek's surface. 115
- Sun Wukong and Sun Mo can deflect his beams; Super Saiyan Sun Mo withstands a Death Beam against his chest without injury. 115 118
Telekinesis
Frieza can manipulate objects and restrain opponents with psychic force. 116
- He raises hundreds of rocks and fires them as projectiles. 116
- His technique, which he calls Sleep Paralysis, traps Sun Wukong in a telekinetic sphere before smashing him into the ground. 116
Energy Attacks
Frieza employs destructive ki attacks beyond his finger beams.
- He forms powerful energy spheres, including an attack intended to destroy Namek by striking its core. 118 119
- His planet-cutting attack creates a bottomless fissure stretching beyond sight. 117
- He uses a purple Destructo Disc that he claims will pursue its target until death; it is ultimately shattered during his battle with Sun Mo. 119 120
- Following his revival, he creates a purple energy blade capable of slicing a fissure hundreds of meters through the ground. 210
- He attempts to destroy Earth with a massive energy blast after losing to Super Saiyan Blue Sun Wukong. 214
Flight, Speed, and Space Survival
Frieza is an extremely fast aerial combatant and can survive in outer space without a ship. 111 125
- He repeatedly outmaneuvers Great Ape Vegeta, exploiting the Saiyan's increased size and reduced agility. 111
- His speed allows him to overwhelm Sun Wukong even while limiting his power. 117
- He attempts to exploit the Saiyans' inability to survive in a vacuum after losing the direct contest of strength against Super Saiyan Sun Mo. 119
Immortality
Frieza seeks an immortal body through the Namekian Dragon Balls and later states that he has obtained it. 101 112 119
- Frieza regards his claimed immortality as a reason he can outlast Saiyan opponents in the vacuum of space. 119
- Despite his belief that his immortal body would allow him to live as long as the universe, Sun Mo later kills him completely. 119 215
