Background / History
Bulma is the second daughter of Capsule Corp and a self-described genius scientist. Before meeting Sun Mo, she researched ancient records on the Dragon Balls, developed a radar to locate them, and set out during summer break to gather all seven for a wish. Her original wish was to obtain a perfect boyfriend. 4 6
She encounters Sun Mo and Son Goku at Mount Paozu while searching for the next Dragon Ball. After Goku stops her car and survives her gunfire, Bulma immediately becomes interested in Sun Mo and asks whether he has a girlfriend. She convinces Sun Mo and Goku to join her journey. 4 6
After collecting the Dragon Balls, Bulma abandons her earlier wish for a boyfriend in favor of immortality and eternal youth, which Shenron grants. She then returns to Capsule Corp with Sun Mo and helps pursue the construction of a Gravity Chamber. 21
Following the destruction of New Namek and Sun Mo’s death during the Broly crisis, Bulma takes responsibility for locating Planet Cereal’s Dragon Balls. With Sun Zhuo, she revives Elder Muri, later gathers Namek’s seven Dragon Balls, and supports the revival of Dende so that he can become Earth’s Kami and restore Earth’s Dragon Balls. 178 188 199 200
After the Majin Buu crisis, Bulma continues managing Capsule Corp while helping raise and train Sun Zhuo. Eleven years later, Sun Zhuo has become an exceptionally intelligent young woman and assists her mother with Capsule Corp affairs, while Bulma’s immortality allows her to celebrate her eighteenth birthday again. 203
During the conflict with Zamasu and Goku Black, Bulma proposes the body-swap strategy that restores Goku to his body. When Beerus and Whis need to locate the Super Dragon Balls, she rapidly develops a universe-scale Super Dragon Ball radar, enabling the gods to gather the seven planet-sized Dragon Balls and revive the gods killed by Zamasu. 233 234
Appearance
Bulma is a fashionable young woman with a curvaceous build and considerable confidence in her appearance. By the later World Martial Arts Tournament, she has traded her earlier look for a shoulder-length bob, large earrings, a deep-purple sleeveless dress, and vivid lipstick. 4 21 77
- Describes herself as having a “perfect 98-56-88 figure.” 4
- Initially wears practical travel clothing, including a tracksuit. 10 21
- Later adopts a more mature and glamorous style that draws attention from onlookers. 77
- Is noted for her natural beauty even without makeup. 27
- Her immortality and eternal youth preserve her youthful appearance even after Sun Zhuo reaches adulthood. 21 203
Personality
Bulma is outspoken, vain, sharp-witted, and intensely self-assured. She openly calls herself beautiful and brilliant, enjoys showing off Sun Mo to classmates, and readily argues with people who underestimate her. 14 23 27
Her confidence is balanced by genuine fear in dangerous situations. She cannot match the fighters physically and is frightened by gunfire, monsters, hostile Namekians, and high-speed Log-Riding Flight. Nevertheless, she repeatedly chooses to help in crises through planning, technology, and direct action. 11 15 46 100 105
As Sun Mo’s partner and Sun Zhuo’s mother, Bulma becomes increasingly protective and practical. She criticizes reckless fighting when it threatens her family, but she remains willing to travel across space or confront hostile situations when people need her help. 129 169 188
Bulma is capable of thinking clearly under exceptional pressure. She organizes recovery plans after mass casualties, rejects Goku’s impulsive proposals when necessary, and creates practical solutions for threats that martial strength alone cannot resolve. 199 200 233
Although Beerus’s warning about time travel initially frightens her, Bulma quickly regains her composure and channels her attention into solving the Super Dragon Ball crisis. 233 234
