Background / History

Taiping City is said to have been established by the Tianqi Dynasty as a “Land of Peace.” By the present era, the dynasty has endured centuries of decline, and the city is regarded as one of its last remaining havens against the demons beyond its borders. Merchants, outlaws, martial artists, yamen runners, and sects collectively form its defenses. 8

During the Rebellion of the Liang King, Emperor Zhengyang fled to Taiping City while pursuing the Imperial Map, a founding-dynasty treasury said to contain resources capable of restoring the empire. He never recovered it, and the legend of the Seven Absolutes Imperial Map remained tied to the city for nearly a century. 38

The death of Hero Shen Tianxing at nearby Chishui Village leaves the wealthy Shen Mansion vulnerable to rival powers. The Feng family subsequently seeks to use its Xifeng Army and the proposed Taiping Martial Alliance to dominate the city. 3 20 31

At Feng Wuque's banquet, the Demon Sealer defeats Feng and the assembled third-rank experts, taking leadership of the Taiping Martial Alliance. The Shen Mansion later acts as the alliance's public head through the Demon Sealer's reputation, though it lacks the military force needed to sustain that position alone. 34 39

Appearance

Taiping City is an old, rain-darkened city of square bluestone streets and wooden buildings. Its busy markets and colorful rooftops contrast with the gloom created by its unstable politics and constant demonic danger. 1 2 8

Demonic Threats

Taiping City is surrounded by demons, and its defenders have repeatedly failed to eliminate all dangers beyond the walls. The abandoned Chishui Village, roughly one hundred li away, became uninhabitable after a river demon emerged there. 22 31

The Shen Mansion is infiltrated by Man-Eating Demon Foxes during the tutorial-stage events. The Demon Sealer’s intervention prevents the mansion’s destruction and exposes the city’s vulnerability to internal demonic plots. 5 8

The Seven Absolutes Python secretly occupies Yuanshuang and operates through the Taiping City Prefecture’s hidden treasury. It intends to use the Imperial Map’s treasure to condense a physical body and eventually turn Taiping City’s inhabitants into prey, but is destroyed by the Demon Sealer. 45 47
