Background / History

Piccolo initially presents himself as King Piccolo, retaining the arrogance, hostility, and ruthless independence associated with that identity. He attacks Lin Chuan alongside Son Goku, only for Lin Chuan to catch his Special Beam Cannon barehanded; the encounter forces Piccolo to confront the vast difference in their strength. 5 6

After regenerating his severed arm, Piccolo learns from Lin Chuan that he is a Namekian and that Planet Namek still exists. The revelation gives him a tangible connection to a homeland he had never known. 10 He initially rejects Son Goku’s suggestion that he reunite with Kami for greater power, refusing what he considers a shortcut and insisting that he is still King Piccolo. 18

Driven by the approaching Saiyan threat and his resentment at being weaker than ordinary combat-type Namekians, Piccolo trains alone. He later accepts responsibility for training Son Gohan, recognizing that Gohan’s fear and timidity must be tempered alongside his immense hidden power. 56 58

Piccolo travels to Namek with Lin Chuan’s group and experiences a powerful sense of belonging upon seeing the planet. Although initially hostile toward Son Goku and the other Earthlings, Piccolo gradually becomes a protective and disciplined mentor to Son Gohan. He uses harsh words and an intimidating presence to force Gohan to overcome fear, but also shields him in battle and cautions him against arrogance. 58 81 111

As he reconnects with the Namekians and undergoes successive assimilations, Piccolo becomes more far-sighted and protective. He fights for Namek as his homeland and accepts responsibility beyond his former ambition to stand above everyone else. 76 79 81
