Background
Kaido began his pirate career as an apprentice aboard the Rocks Pirates. After decades of dominating the seas, he became a Yonko with a bounty of 4.61 billion Beli. 122
When Kozuki Oden returned to Wano with the Roger Pirates, Kaido feared the crew that had conquered the Grand Line and considered returning the country to Oden. Oden came ashore alone, however, allowing Kaido to retain Wano; Kaido acknowledges Oden's strength while condemning his willingness to negotiate as foolishness. 199
Kaido spent more than twenty years turning most of Wano into weapons factories, treating the country as the foundation for a pirate empire and a future world-spanning war. 199
Appearance
Kaido is an immense, beast-like man whose size overwhelms ordinary people. He has prominent horns, a dark, thick-set face, and a long black beard. 122 199
- Carries the spiked kanabo Hassaikai. 198
- Commonly keeps a sake gourd at his side. 197 199
- His hybrid form is covered in cyan scales and retains his enlarged horns. 200 203
- His Beast Form is an enormous Azure Dragon with long whiskers. 200 205
Personality
Kaido deliberately cultivates a rough, death-seeking image, but he is highly shrewd and suspicious. He distrusts promises between pirates, weighs the value of Wano to his ambitions, and refuses deals that would force him to abandon his long-term plans. 182 199 200
He values strength above nearly everything else and actively seeks powerful recruits for the Beasts Pirates. His initial interest in Joker begins as an attempt to recruit him, but Joker's unpredictability eventually makes Kaido regard him as an equal in madness rather than a subordinate. 122 182 197
Kaido is uncompromising in conflict. Even when Joker threatens what he values, Kaido refuses to yield on the other party's terms, declaring that a pirate must either kill or be killed. 199 Despite this, he has genuine attachment to his crew and daughter, becoming vulnerable when Joker weaponizes Yamato, King, and his other comrades against him. 211
