Background / History
Ogedei is a veteran White Scars officer who has fought for the Imperium and Jaghatai Khan for over two centuries. He served from Ullanor to Prospero and bears intense hatred for the traitors responsible for the deaths of his brothers. 10 12
Following the White Scars' internal conflict near Prospero, Ogedei's understrength Falcon Brotherhood was detached from the main Legion fleet. Jaghatai Khan assigned it to escort Apothecary and Magos Biologis Kunto Anastasio to Mars. 24
While traveling toward the Cheslatan system, Ogedei led a torpedo boarding action against the Sons of Horus frigate Gryphon. The enemy ship was destroyed in the resulting clash, but Ogedei's squad was killed and his legs were crushed beneath wreckage when the vessel crashed on Cheslatan. 11 24
Fu Qinghai found Ogedei trapped in the wreckage. After angrily affirming his loyalty to the Khan and the Imperium, Ogedei was subdued with a shock lance, fitted with a recovered life-support unit, and amputated his own ruined legs with a power sword. Fu then built a trailer to bring him back to the colonial outpost. 10
Despite his injury, Ogedei assumed command of Cheslatan's outpost, directed salvage operations, and re-established contact with the White Scars frigate Dagger. Talal subsequently recovered him and brought him back aboard the ship. 11 12
Appearance
Ogedei is a burly, imposing Astartes with a jowly face. After the Gryphon boarding action, he has no lower body and relies on a mechanical wheelchair. 10 19
- Wears battle-damaged White Scars power armor when operational. 11
- Lost both legs after they were crushed in the Gryphon wreckage. 10
- Retains the physical scale and presence of a Space Marine despite his disability. 11
- His armory displays an Ork Warboss's preserved head and other xenos trophies. 13
Personality
Ogedei is fiercely loyal to Jaghatai Khan and the Emperor. Questions concerning that loyalty provoke an immediate, personal fury, particularly because he has watched White Scars brothers die at the hands of their own traitorous kin. 10 12
He is blunt, demanding, and willing to disregard procedure when necessity demands it. Though recruiting Fu Qinghai violated Legion and Administratum rules, Ogedei considered the White Scars' wartime losses too severe to reject a promising candidate on bureaucratic grounds. 14 16
Beneath his harsh manner, Ogedei is protective of those he accepts as his own. He personally arranged Fu Qinghai's ascension, appealed to Kunto to maximize the surgery's chances of success, trained Fu relentlessly, and later entrusted him with representing the White Scars aboard the Sotharan. 15 16 32
Abilities & Skills
Astartes Combatant
Ogedei is an experienced Space Marine and is regarded as the Falcon Brotherhood's best melee fighter apart from Arslang's own assessment of him. His armory's trophies and his leadership in the Gryphon boarding action reflect a long combat career. 13 21 24
- Led a torpedo boarding action against a Sons of Horus frigate. 24
- Continued combat training after losing both legs, wielding two heavy blades from a mechanical wheelchair. 19
- Performs extreme battlefield self-treatment, including amputating his own legs while relying on armor life-support systems. 10
- Intended to enter a Dreadnought because conventional prosthetics could not meet his required combat standards. 22
Command and Strategy
As a Noyan-Khan, Ogedei can take command of Imperial forces and is adept at making operational decisions under pressure. 10 11
- Took control of the Cheslatan colonial outpost and organized recovery of the warship wreckage. 11
- Maintained the Falcon Brotherhood's Mars escort mission despite his personal desire to pursue traitors directly. 12 24
- Assigned Fu Qinghai to investigate a pirate distress call while retaining the main force to confront a Lunar-class cruiser. 28
- Negotiated continued cooperation with the Ultramarines of the Sotharan while withholding the White Scars' classified mission. 32 34
White Scars Instruction
Ogedei trains recruits according to demanding White Scars standards and teaches cultural practices alongside combat discipline. 16 21
- Required Fu Qinghai to meet the historic standard of the top three monastery candidates within one year. 16
