Background / History

Talal served alongside Noyan-Khan Ogedei Mangnut in the White Scars' Falcon Brotherhood. When Ogedei, the sole survivor of the crashed Gryphon, contacted the frigate Dagger using a Sons of Horus signal, Talal immediately recognized him and arranged a recovery mission to Cheslatan 11.

He arrived aboard a Stormbird and reunited with the badly injured Ogedei. The two assessed why the Sons of Horus had visited the otherwise worthless Cheslatan colony, concluding that the traitors likely acted on outdated star-map information identifying it as an agricultural world 12.

Talal initially opposed Ogedei's plan to induct Locke/Fu Qinghai into the Legion, citing both White Scars recruitment rules and Administratum political vetting. Ogedei's argument that the Horus Heresy had made normal recruitment impossible ultimately persuaded him 14. He later observed Fu Qinghai's brutal pre-ascension training and took part in discussing whether the recruit's apparent knowledge of the White Scars' internal rebellion indicated psychic potential 16.

Personality

Talal is practical, disciplined, and more regulation-minded than Ogedei. He objected to Fu Qinghai's unconventional recruitment because it bypassed both Legion procedure and Administratum oversight, though he accepted the necessity of the decision once Ogedei made the wartime case for it 14.

Despite his restraint, he shares Ogedei's loyalty to the White Scars, Jaghatai Khan, and the Imperium. He treats Ogedei as a brother, openly acknowledges the cost of the captain's survival, and reminds him not to lose sight of their escort mission amid his hatred for traitors 12.

As a commander, Talal is decisive and unsentimental when his warriors are attacked, but he makes a genuine effort to avoid needless slaughter. On Moradigan, he attempted to distinguish the White Scars from the Night Lords in the eyes of terrified locals, only ordering lethal force after his squad came under fire 26.

Moradigan Supply Mission

Talal leads the White Scars tactical squad that enters Bangluojia after the Night Lords' withdrawal. He secures the city’s Governor's Palace, negotiates with local restorationists, survives Afaf's assassination attempt, and allows Qingshan to investigate her suspicious background 26 27.

Pirate Distress Signal

After the Moradigan mission, Talal assesses the pirate distress signal with Ogedei. He discusses the danger of psykers and watches Ogedei assign Qingshan to board the merchant vessel alone while the main White Scars force prepares for the approaching Lunar-class cruiser 28.

Roswell VII Aftermath

Talal descends with White Scars support after the Ultramarines' teleportation extraction fails. He finds Qingshan alive but severely wounded, learns that one of his two hearts has been shattered, and returns him to the Dagger so Master Kunto can treat him 45.
