Background / History
Shrek Academy originally operates from a dilapidated village outside Suotuo City. Its entrance consists of a wooden archway, a tattered plaque, and a green Shrek-monster emblem; registration is conducted at a table near the village entrance. Tang San and Xiao Wu initially mistake the location for a scam because of its condition. 60 61
Despite its impoverished campus, the academy brands itself as a school exclusively for “monsters,” using exceptional admission and graduation standards to select students with high potential. 62 63
The academy later seeks to merge into Heaven Dou Royal Academy through alumnus Qin Ming, chiefly so its students can enter the Continental Advanced Soul Master Academy Elite Tournament. After conflict with Prince Xue Xing and Dugu Bo, Flender withdraws the academy instead, choosing Liu Erlong’s Lanba Academy. Liu Erlong offers Flender the deanship and permits Lanba Academy to be renamed Shrek Academy. 84 98 106 107 108
By the time factions search its original Suotuo City grounds for Xiao Wu, the old Shrek Academy campus has been abandoned. 158
Campus and Conditions
- Original location — A run-down village outside Suotuo City rather than an urban academy complex. 60
- Entrance — A wooden archway with a damaged Shrek Academy plaque and a green emblem depicting a head with trumpet-shaped ears. 60
- Training and dining facilities — The cafeteria is a lightly converted residence staffed by villagers; meals are described as simple basins of potatoes, radishes, and cabbage. 65
- Financial demands — Applicants pay a ten Gold Soul Coin registration fee, while newly admitted students are charged an additional one hundred Gold Soul Coins in miscellaneous fees. 65
- Later campus — Lanba Academy provides a replacement base in Heaven Dou Imperial City and retains tournament-entry qualifications after being renamed. 106 107
Admission and Graduation Standards
| Requirement | Standard |
|---|---|
| Age and cultivation | Applicants must reach level 21 spirit power—the Soul Grand Master realm—before age thirteen. 62 |
| Soul rings | Applicants must possess an optimal soul-ring configuration. 62 |
| Martial soul development | Their martial soul must be developed in an appropriate direction. 62 63 |

| Graduation cultivation | Students must exceed level 40 before age twenty. 63 |

The academy reports having admitted sixty-two students, of whom only fourteen graduated. Dai Mubai claims every graduate became a notable figure, though the claim that its greatest graduate became Martial Soul Hall’s youngest elder is disputed by Martial Soul Hall. 63 64
Administration and Faculty
- Flender — Dean; a level 78 Soul Saint with the Four-Eyed Owl martial soul. He oversees admissions, academy finances, rules, and student training. 65
- Zhao Wuji — Teacher known as the Immovable Bright King; a level 76 Soul Saint who conducts the final practical entrance assessment. 64 65
- Li Yusong — Teacher responsible for registration and finances. He tests applicants’ age, martial souls, and soul rings. 61 65
- Yu Xiaogang — Later joins the faculty and takes responsibility for improving student meals; he also directs training for the Shrek Seven Devils. 67 68
- Liu Erlong — Dean of Lanba Academy and a member of the Golden Iron Triangle with Flender and Yu Xiaogang. She enables Shrek Academy’s relocation and renaming. 84 106 107

Training and Academy Culture
Practical Assessments
The final enrollment assessment requires applicants to withstand Zhao Wuji in combat. Tang San, Xiao Wu, Zhu Zhuqing, and Ning Rongrong pass after coordinating against him, with Tang San’s hidden weapons and Clear Sky Hammer playing a decisive role. 64 65
Physical and Team Training
Flender assigns Ning Rongrong and Oscar long-distance running around the village, arguing that support- and food-type soul masters need escape ability. Yu Xiaogang later institutes weighted-running exercises to develop teamwork among the Shrek Seven Devils. 65 68
Soul Fighting
The Shrek Seven Devils receive team soul-fighting training at the Suotuo City Great Soul Arena. They later defeat the Huangdou Team, Heaven Dou Royal Academy’s first team competing under a pseudonym. 68
School Motto
“He who dares not cause trouble is a mediocrity.” 66
Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun invoke this motto when provoking Blue Sunshine Academy students near the Star Dou Great Forest. 66
Reputation and Criticism
Shrek Academy’s contrast between elite selection standards and poor material conditions becomes widely debated after its portrayal on the Comparison Sky Screen. Its village campus, basic meals, lack of evident cultivation facilities, and fees undermine the expectation that it is a prestigious hidden academy. 60 61 65
Critics particularly condemn the requirement that students hunt their fourth soul ring alone, arguing that it exposes already rare talents to unnecessary danger. Dugu Bo and Shui Bing’er characterize the academy as having standards and faculty that do not match its facilities or educational capability. 62 64
Flender’s running assignments for Oscar and Ning Rongrong, the academy’s simple food, and its “cause trouble” motto further damage its public image. Yu Xiaogang explicitly objects to the students’ nutrition and assumes responsibility for improving it after Flender states that the academy is poor. 65 66 67
Uniforms
After taking over Lanba Academy, Flender changes its uniforms to a dark, murky green commonly described as “poop-green.” The design bears a green Shrek-monster pattern on the front and the red embroidered slogan “Seeking Title Sponsors!” on the back. 89 132
The Shrek students dislike the uniforms and are mocked by other tournament teams; Flender eventually agrees to spend more on improved uniforms for a later tournament. 132 141
