Seers Are So Annoying
Klein wasn't just coming to dream; he'd been having a rough time lately. To hide Lynch's Dream Infiltration, he'd even hired a makeup artist to teach him how to make his face resemble Moriarty's while still different from his previous Klein persona.
It cost him a full ten pounds, but the effect was remarkable. He not only fooled Lynch in reality, but also Lynch his dreams.
He thought he was safe.
At most, he was startled by Lynch in his dream and humiliated by being given two pence. Then, the very next day after Lynch and the others left, a man came to his door and asked him to find clues about Ian.
He was terrified at the mere mention of Ian's name; the man could cost him ten thousand pounds, so he immediately refused the commission.
He thought it was all over, but who knew that last night, that man actually came to his door and tried to kill him.
However, he was not one to be trifled with, and he killed the other man, only to find out that his name was Meursault and that Pathway was Hunter. The Backlund police are currently searching for him.
Klein could only wait until Meursault extracted the Beyonder Characteristic, and after waiting a while longer to confirm that the official Beyonder could not find any problems, before he went to the police station to report the incident.
He spent the first half of last night at the police station, and was only bailed home by Lawyer Jurgen in the second half of the night. As for his revolver, it was left at the police station as the murder weapon.
After returning, Klein woke up from a nap and found signs of intrusion in his room. He checked the location on Sefirah Castle and realized he was in deep trouble.
Meursault is very likely the person Stephanie mentioned in her diary, the one who lost ten thousand pounds.
He should have agreed to Meursault's request back then.
After all, there's a reward for finding just one person, so other agencies would definitely be willing to do it. It's obviously strange that he refused to do it when he wasn't looking for anyone.
That's why Meursault investigated him, discovered that Ian had been here, suspected he was connected to Ian, and was certain he would target him.
Why didn't he realize it at the time?
Klein was extremely annoyed; he even complained about Ms. Stephanie, wondering why she hadn't written it more clearly.
Do Seer always only give half the answer?
He looks so rude!
However, he didn't say this aloud, because he himself was the one who would take the next spot.
In short, after all these events, Klein originally intended to issue missions at Sefirah Castle Keep next time, but the thought of ten thousand pounds immediately gave him other ideas.
Wasn't the Goddess always watching him?
Leonard even dug up his grave. The captain and Leonard both know he's not dead, but they haven't put a warrant for his arrest. Obviously, the Holy Cathedral doesn't want anyone to talk about it, so why isn't he joining the Nighthawks squad?
At worst, faking his death would only get him his pension back, and then he could fake his death in front of Lynch, but compared to ten thousand pounds, Klein thought that was acceptable.
So he took Lynch's spot based on the two pence Lynch had left behind, and looking at the Blackthorn Security Company sign at the door, he almost called out to Rozanne directly.
But he quickly realized that Rozanne was in Tingen, and this was someone else.
Sure enough, the receptionist was a woman he didn't recognize, but Lynch was standing next to her.
Klein suppressed his excitement and spoke a few words to Lynch before getting down to business.
"Here's the thing, I'm a Detective. A while ago, a kid named Ian offered me five pounds to find a gentleman, but I refused. I don't think I'm qualified for five pounds."
Later, a prisoner came to my house and asked me to find the boy Ian. I recognized the prisoner as Meursault. I didn't really want to deal with them, so I refused again.
Who knew he would break into my house yesterday trying to kill me? Because of work, I have a revolver, and I accidentally killed him in self-defense. Afterwards, I called the police, but after returning home, I became more and more frightened, so I came to find you.
I need your protection for a while. I'm really worried about retaliation from the people behind Meursault; after all, I just felt like someone was following me.
Klein feigned fear and shivered.
Although he was somewhat worried, he wasn't overly so. After all, this was the Nighthawks squad, and there was no way the people behind Meursault would come here to capture him.
Moreover, he had already said these words to the police once, and when he spoke to Lynch, he barely changed his tone.
He was only worried about his own wallet.
He snatched Miss Justice's business from Lynch today, earning only 450 pounds; he doesn't know if that's enough.
"You killed Meursault?"
Lynch looked surprised.
He thought that keeping Klein away from Ian would be enough, but who knew that Meursault would actually come looking for news of Ian and even try to kill Mr. Fool, only to be killed in the end.
"Yes, but I didn't mean to. I was terrified. He came up and tried to kill me, so all I could do was swing the revolver wildly!"
Klein said, feigning grievance.
But as soon as he finished speaking, he heard a familiar voice from behind him.
"I thought if it were you, you would set up a bunch of traps and wait for those people to fall into your hands, wouldn't you agree?"
It's Leonard.
He stood menacingly beside Klein.
Although his face had changed, his physique remained the same, and the old man inside him quickly recognized him as his former colleague Klein.
This guy actually dares to come over?
I don't know what you're talking about.
Klein feigned ignorance.
The Holy Cathedral must have told Leonard to shut up, otherwise why would this guy not just name him but instead hint at his identity to Lynch?
"Okay, Leonard, you're acting strange today. You didn't mistake Moriarty for Klein, did you? I thought so at first too, and I scared him a few times, but he's perfectly fine."
Lynch smiled.
He then quickly went to find Dunn to ask if he would accept the order.
Klein stared at his retreating figure for a moment, then realized that Lynch had scared him in his dream not only to play the Nightmare, but also to confirm whether he was Klein.
But this guy didn't know that he could stay awake in his dreams, so it was easy for him to put on makeup when he knocked on the door.
It's fair to say that the ten pounds he spent to appease Lynch were well worth it.
"What mischief are you plotting? What are you trying to trick us out of now? Let me tell you, Lynch may not know you, but I know you perfectly well. If any more members of the Nighthawks team fall under your control, I will not let you get away with this!"
Leonard whispered menacingly in Klein's ear.
Klein rolled his eyes; he was thoroughly fed up with Leonard's unfounded speculations.
"If you have evidence, then go report me to the Goddess. If you don't have evidence, then cooperate with me. I suspect the Holy Cathedral will tell you that I'm out there on a mission! You'd better not expose my identity, or you'll be the one betraying the Goddess!"
