Background / History

Leonard was already a Nighthawk in Tingen when Lynch and Klein joined the organization. He had previously shot Lynch, an incident Lynch teasingly used to demand a one-pound moving gift; Leonard accepted with good humor. Afterward, Leonard privately judged Lynch to be ordinary and genuine, while finding Klein far more suspicious. 14

During the Antigonus Notebook incident, Leonard became convinced that Klein might be connected to Lynch's unexplained control and the notebook's reappearance. He pressed Klein repeatedly but ultimately apologized when Dunn warned him not to suspect teammates without evidence. 47 48

His distrust of Klein persisted through later cases. Leonard noticed Klein's unusual knowledge, secret divinations, and apparently impossible escapes, eventually declaring that he would uncover Klein's secret. Despite this, he worked alongside Klein throughout the Tingen investigations. 93 122 124

Personality

Leonard is perceptive, skeptical, and relentless when he believes a teammate is concealing something. His suspicions of Klein often frustrate the rest of the team, but they stem from a desire to prevent danger rather than simple hostility. He also warns Lynch that his readiness to trust people—including Mr. Azik—is a serious weakness. 66 108
