Background / History
Shrek accepted Zhang Lexuan after Mu En promised to avenge the Zhang family, provided she joined the academy and swore loyalty. Su Chen accompanied her to the academy and was treated well because of Lexuan’s exceptional standing. 1
For ten thousand years, Shrek stood as the continent’s foremost soul master academy. Shrek City was nominally neutral and independent of the three empires, but its influence exceeded theirs; the academy was regarded as the city’s true power and the continent’s only independent kingdom. 74
The academy’s prestige rested on its elite Inner Court, Sea God Pavilion leadership, and reputation for producing “monsters.” Its public identity began to fracture when the Body Sect exposed Shrek’s technological weakness, internal opportunism, and inability to match Battle Armor technology. 74 80 81
Structure and Facilities
- Sea God Pavilion — Shrek’s highest authority, led by Mu En and staffed by senior elders such as Xuan Zi, Yan Shaozhe, Qian Duoduo, and Xian Lin’er. 81 150
- Inner Court — Houses Shrek’s elite disciples and senior students; Zhang Lexuan held immense prestige there as its eldest senior sister. 74
- Outer Court — The academy’s freshman and general-student division, including Shrek Square and instructors such as Zhou Yi. 74
- Shrek City — A vast, prosperous neutral city surrounding the academy and historically considered one of the continent’s safest places. 74 159
- Golden Ancient Tree / Golden Tree — Shrek’s life source and a foundation of Sea God Pavilion’s power. Its severe damage worsened Mu En’s condition and destabilized the academy. 150 165 180
Culture and Training
Shrek promoted the principle that it accepted only “monsters,” not ordinary students. Zhou Yi’s freshman training demanded three hundred laps around Shrek Square, threatening expulsion for those unable to endure it. 74
- Freshmen were pushed through extreme physical drills, with some collapsing or foaming at the mouth. 74
- Zhou Yi openly dismissed students she deemed weak, unstable, or disrespectful of hierarchy. 74
- Su Chen and Di Qiu’er criticized the regimen as inefficient and harmful, contrasting it with the Body Sect’s strength-based training culture. 74 75
- Inner Court disciples were notably proud of Shrek’s reputation and initially underestimated rivals because of the academy’s historical dominance. 35 74
Battle Armor Crisis
Shrek recognized Battle Armor as technology capable of reshaping the continent’s power structure. However, it lacked the leading forging talent, rare-metal reserves, and technical foundation necessary to reproduce the Body Sect’s work. 73 74
Yan Shaozhe sought Battle Armor’s core inscriptions and material ratios, believing that mastering it would let Shrek reclaim continental leadership. Xuan Zi and Yan Shaozhe later considered exploiting Zhang Lexuan’s connection to the Body Sect to steal the technology. 80 81
Mu En rejected this proposal, arguing that Shrek’s glory could not be sustained by exploiting its own children or using trickery and force. 81
- Shrek purchased Battle Armor-related items but could not reverse-engineer them; unauthorized dismantling would trigger a self-destruct mechanism that reduced the internal structure to scrap metal. 117 150
- Qian Duoduo and Xian Lin’er made no meaningful progress in reverse-cracking Battle Armor. 150
- Mu En concluded that even in his prime, he might have struggled against Du Busi equipped with Battle Armor. 150
Conflict with the Body Sect
Du Busi’s visit to Shrek escalated from a purported academic exchange into open humiliation. He challenged Shrek’s authority, attacked Xuan Zi, and demonstrated the overwhelming advantage of Three-Word Battle Armor. 73 78
The Body Sect demanded enormous compensation from Shrek, including public apologies from Xuan Zi and Yan Shaozhe, money, soul bones, and heavenly treasures. Shrek’s leadership split between preserving dignity and preserving the academy’s foundation. 83 88 96
Mu En ultimately submitted to Du Busi’s demands rather than risk a Limit Douluo battle that Shrek, relying on an aged and injured Mu En, could not sustain. The settlement devastated Shrek’s resources and shattered its image of invincibility. 96 97 98
- Du Busi — The Body Sect’s sect master repeatedly forced Shrek into humiliating concessions and used its defeats to elevate the Body Sect. 96 97
- Su Chen — The creator and wielder of Battle Armor technology whose strength became a central threat to Shrek’s standing. 74 92 150
- Zhang Lexuan — Shrek’s former Inner Court eldest senior sister; her ties to the Body Sect became a source of both hope and ethical conflict for Shrek’s elders. 73 81
- Mu En — Shrek’s principal and Sea God Pavilion master, who repeatedly sacrificed pride and resources to preserve the academy’s lineage. 81 97 181
- Xuan Zi — Sea God Pavilion elder and Shrek Inspection Team vice-captain whose actions precipitated Shrek’s collapse. 153 180
Tournament Defeat
At the Continental Advanced Soul Master Academy Soul Fighting Tournament, Shrek faced the Body Sect in the semifinals. Wang Yan fielded all seven main members in an attempt to exploit the Body Sect’s presumed overconfidence. 118 119
The strategy failed when Su Chen and Gu Yuena entered the team battle alongside the Body Sect’s strongest lineup. Shrek’s seven members were defeated, while Su Chen did not need to fully intervene. 120 122 123
Shrek forfeited the subsequent individual matches because its team was too severely injured to continue. The loss ended the academy’s ten-thousand-year undefeated myth and removed it from the tournament before the finals. 123 124
Fall of Shrek
Following the tournament defeat, Xuan Zi pursued forbidden methods to regain power and avenge Shrek. He became an Evil Soul Master, lost control of the Dark Taotie martial soul, and attacked Shrek’s own Inner Court disciples. 123 152 153
Xuan Zi escaped into Shrek City and massacred civilians, causing a bloodbath that destroyed public faith in the academy. Shrek’s leaders attempted to contain the damage through compensation, promises of justice, and an internal purge, but Mu En continued protecting Xuan Zi’s life. 154 158 159
Xuan Zi later attempted to devour the Golden Ancient Tree itself in pursuit of greater power. The resulting damage crippled a central pillar of Shrek’s foundation and further weakened Mu En. 165 174 180
- Thousands of civilians were killed during Xuan Zi’s rampage, and Shrek City’s survivors demanded his execution. 159
- The Clear Sky Sect withdrew Wang Dong from Shrek after learning of the massacre and the academy’s condition. 161 176
- Students, families, nobles, and sects withdrew from the academy en masse, fearing that its own senior figures could become murderous Evil Soul Masters. 176 180
- Shrek’s reputation deteriorated from a sacred institution into what the public called a “concentration camp for evil soul masters.” 181
- Mu En ordered the academy sealed, instructing its remaining members to abandon external interests and focus on survival. 176 181
Leadership
- Mu En — Principal and Sea God Pavilion master. He opposed exploiting Zhang Lexuan, accepted humiliating concessions to preserve Shrek, and eventually planned to ask Du Busi to help execute Xuan Zi. 81 97 181
- Xuan Zi — Taotie Douluo, Sea God Pavilion elder, and vice-captain of the Shrek Inspection Team. His obsession with restoring Shrek’s glory led to his fall as an Evil Soul Master. 60 123 153
- Yan Shaozhe — Dean of the Martial Soul Department. He sought Battle Armor technology, supported using Zhang Lexuan to acquire it, and struggled to control the fallout from Xuan Zi’s crimes. 80 81 159
- Qian Duoduo — Dean of the Soul Guidance Department. He favored negotiation with the Body Sect and later participated in unsuccessful Battle Armor research. 83 150
- Xian Lin’er — Dean of the Soul Guidance Department. She fiercely defended Shrek’s dignity but could not prevent its concessions or technological decline. 83 88 150
