Background / History

Shrek accepted Zhang Lexuan after Mu En promised to avenge the Zhang family, provided she joined the academy and swore loyalty. Su Chen accompanied her to the academy and was treated well because of Lexuan’s exceptional standing. 1

For ten thousand years, Shrek stood as the continent’s foremost soul master academy. Shrek City was nominally neutral and independent of the three empires, but its influence exceeded theirs; the academy was regarded as the city’s true power and the continent’s only independent kingdom. 74

The academy’s prestige rested on its elite Inner Court, Sea God Pavilion leadership, and reputation for producing “monsters.” Its public identity began to fracture when the Body Sect exposed Shrek’s technological weakness, internal opportunism, and inability to match Battle Armor technology. 74 80 81

The strategy failed when Su Chen and Gu Yuena entered the team battle alongside the Body Sect’s strongest lineup. Shrek’s seven members were defeated, while Su Chen did not need to fully intervene. 120 122 123

Shrek forfeited the subsequent individual matches because its team was too severely injured to continue. The loss ended the academy’s ten-thousand-year undefeated myth and removed it from the tournament before the finals. 123 124

Fall of Shrek

Following the tournament defeat, Xuan Zi pursued forbidden methods to regain power and avenge Shrek. He became an Evil Soul Master, lost control of the Dark Taotie martial soul, and attacked Shrek’s own Inner Court disciples. 123 152 153

Xuan Zi escaped into Shrek City and massacred civilians, causing a bloodbath that destroyed public faith in the academy. Shrek’s leaders attempted to contain the damage through compensation, promises of justice, and an internal purge, but Mu En continued protecting Xuan Zi’s life. 154 158 159
