Sarutobi Toru completed his Sage Mode training, planted a soul-linked body in Sunagakure, and helped Kinnara rise while secretly shaping events across the villages. As Toru trained Konoha's exam team, Kinnara, Rasa, and Pakura traveled toward Iwagakure and fought an apparent ambush.

• Sarutobi Toru gave Uzumaki Kushina and Uzumaki Kanao Perfect Potions, and both girls awakened enhanced abilities after sleeping through the transformation.
• Sarutobi Toru completed Sage Mode training in Shikkotsu Forest, while Hiruko and Orochimaru shared research on White Zetsu, bloodline fusion, and replacement bodies.
• Sarutobi Toru implanted a Substitute Seed in Kinnara of Sunagakure, linking the boy to his soul and increasing Kinnara's strength and mental power.

Kinnara revealed his Wood Release at the Chunin Exam and helped Sunagakure develop new oases, while Sarutobi Toru pursued the Dragon Vein’s power and discovered a parallel Hokage World. After spending months in Rōran, Toru returned to the Land of Wind and confronted three Sand Shinobi who spoke of the Third Kazekage’s death.

• Kinnara demonstrated Wood Release at the Chunin Exam, trapping Konoha’s finalists and winning for Sunagakure, while Sarutobi Toru fought Ōnoki and the Third Kazekage to a draw.
• Sarutobi Toru told Konoha’s leaders that Kinnara’s Wood Release depended on White Zetsu bodies and could be used to devastate the Land of Wind and the Land of Earth.
• Kinnara joined Sunagakure’s effort to divert Rōran’s underground water, while Sarutobi Toru secretly used the Dragon Vein to charge the Main God Fragment and discover a parallel Hokage World.
• Sarutobi Toru trained Uzumaki Kushina and Uzumaki Kanao, investigated Nawaki’s preserved body, and later used his Hormone Fruit ability on Queen Sēramu to gain access to the Dragon Vein.

Sarutobi Toru rescued Pakura, awakened Shisui’s Mangekyō, killed Danzo, and drew Konoha’s leaders into a search for the intruder. Shisui then confronted Obito and tracked him to his underground base, where Obito revealed his resolve to pursue the Moon Eye Plan for Rin.

• Sarutobi Toru infiltrated Sunagakure, killed its elders, and rescued Pakura from Kirigakure, then treated her and sent her to join Akatsuki and build her own forces.
• Sarutobi Toru captured Uchiha Shisui, awakened his Mangekyō Sharingan, and created a Shisui clone with Kotoamatsukami as a dangerous mental attack.
• Shisui returned to Konoha, where he gave Might Guy a martial arts scroll, while Sarutobi Toru killed Shimura Danzō and stole Root’s records.
• Sarutobi Hiruzen and Orochimaru took charge of Root and investigated Danzō’s death, while Sarutobi Toru escaped the base and fought Hiruzen and Namikaze Minato before slipping away.
• Orochimaru sought to recruit Shisui into Root, but Sarutobi Toru confronted Orochimaru, gave him research notes about souls, and warned him that changing bodies wore down the soul.
• Shisui traveled to Kannabi Bridge and confronted Uchiha Obito, using Kotoamatsukami to overwhelm his mind before revealing that he had marked Obito and Tobi with Flying Thunder God.
• Shisui tracked Obito and Tobi to their underground base, where Black Zetsu restored Obito’s resolve to pursue the Moon Eye Plan for Rin, and Shisui challenged how Obito thought he had found them.

Sarutobi Toru strengthened himself and gathered allies to confront Uchiha Madara, taking the Minor God Tree while escaping Madara’s costly counterattack. The group returned to Konoha with evidence and spoils, then went to inform Sarutobi Hiruzen about Madara.

• Sarutobi Toru and Orochimaru developed their research into soul cultivation and immortality while Shisui infiltrated Madara’s ranks and secretly gathered White Zetsu for Toru.
• Sarutobi Toru consumed White Zetsu-made Chakra Fruits, grew stronger, and defeated Jiraiya in a spar before deciding to confront Madara for the Minor God Tree.
• Shisui gained Madara’s trust and took Uchiha Hitomi out of the base, while Sarutobi Toru brought Tsunade, Jiraiya, and Orochimaru to Madara’s hideout.
• Sarutobi Toru shrank the Minor God Tree into a seed and absorbed its Chakra as Tsunade and the others fought Madara and his Demonic Statue of the Outer Path.
• Madara used Limbo: Border Jail, but Sarutobi Toru sensed the danger and teleported his companions away before Madara could stop them.
• Sarutobi Toru and Tsunade searched Madara’s base and took weapons, Sharingan, Hashirama Cells, and the White Zetsu-producing seed back to Konoha.
• Sarutobi Toru and his allies agreed to tell Sarutobi Hiruzen about Madara, then Jiraiya presented the modified Uchiha Gunbai to him.
