After learning how Obito abducted Kushina and trading research with Orochimaru, Toru invaded Kumogakure to seize its secret techniques, leaving the Fourth Raikage and Killer B defeated as reinforcements arrived.

• Sarutobi Hiruzen learned Madara had escaped with the Gedo Statue, while Sarutobi Toru warned that Madara could create powerful successors and urged Konoha’s leaders to prepare.
• Uchiha Shisui used genjutsu to seize control of Yagura and the Three-Tails, Isobu, while Black and White Zetsu concealed their involvement in Kirigakure.
• Sarutobi Toru became a Ghost Immortal, connected with the Flying Nimbus, and took the Star and a scroll of the Mysterious Peacock Method from Hoshigakure for study.

Sarutobi Toru joined the ninja from other villages to stop Moryo’s revival and helped Miko Miroku seal the demon. He then persuaded Miroku to travel with him to Konoha, where her prophecy soon warned of danger at an inn in the Land of Rain.

• Sarutobi Toru returned to a growing Konoha, discussed the looming war with Sarutobi Hiruzen, and learned that Tsunade had returned from the Land of Whirlpools.
• Sarutobi Hiruzen assigned Sarutobi Toru, Aburame Shibi, and Hizashi Hyuga to protect Miko Miroku while she sealed Moryo, as Yomi prepared to break the demon’s seal.
• Sarutobi Toru and his team met Ōnoki and the Sunagakure delegation, including Sasori, at the shrine in the Land of Demons, where Miroku explained that Moryo was heading for the Land of Swamps.
• The allied ninja split their forces to confront Moryo and its Ghost Army, and Sarutobi Toru descended into the volcano to face Moryo with Aburame Shibi.

Sarutobi Toru helped Konoha survive Uchiha Madara’s attack, then prepared for the war that followed by strengthening allies and recruiting Sasori. He rescued Uzumaki Kanao and Karin, confronted Tsunade, and later learned of Orochimaru’s research and Konoha’s search for Shisui.

• Sarutobi Toru and Miko Miroku rescued Konan after the mudslide, while Uchiha Madara arranged for Shisui and Black Zetsu to carry out his plans after his death.
• Sarutobi Toru fought Uchiha Madara as Tsunade and Konoha’s ninja defended the village, and he teleported Madara’s Chibaku Tensei core away before escaping with Madara’s corpse.
• Konoha mourned thousands of dead, and Sarutobi Toru spread rumors that Kumogakure had sent Madara, prompting the other villages to prepare for war.

As Konoha fought Kumogakure, its battlefield advantage drove the Cloud forces to retreat and left A questioning whether his village could continue alone.

• Sarutobi Toru and Orochimaru helped Hiruko reincarnate and absorb Wood Release, then tested his enhanced body before Hiruko began adjusting to it.
• As war spread across Konoha’s borders, Sarutobi Hiruzen sent Toru and Namikaze Minato to negotiate peace with Sunagakure and Iwagakure using Konoha’s tree-destroying potion as leverage.
• Toru challenged the Third Kazekage and Sunagakure’s strongest shinobi, defeating them and presenting a treaty that demanded trade concessions, students, and military support.
