Background / History
Liu Jiaying was an orphan and ordinary white-collar science student in her previous life. She drowned after saving two children who had fallen into a river, then was reborn with her memories intact as the daughter of Liu Zhong and Jia Yuanchun. 19
As an infant, she recognized names such as Jia Yuanchun, Jia Baoyu, Jia Lian, and Tanchun, realizing she had entered the world of Dream of the Red Chamber. She initially resolved to save the Twelve Beauties of Jinling and protect her uncle Liu Xianglian from his original fate. 19
She soon discovered that the world had already changed dramatically: Jia Daishan had lived longer, Jia Hu was alive and successful, Lin Daiyu's parents survived, and many of the women whose tragedies she expected had instead gained happier lives. Jiaying ultimately chose to enjoy the life she had been given rather than force herself into a savior's role. 19 20
As a child, she frequently stayed at Rongguo Mansion with Yingchun, Tanchun, Xichun, Lin Daiyu, and Shi Xiangyun. She received instruction in literature, poetry, music, chess, calligraphy, and painting from a female tutor, though she struggled with the subjects because of her science-focused background. 23
Fairy Jinghuan later identified Jiaying as an otherworldly soul and blamed her for the collapse of her plans. Jiaying stalled the hostile fairy by falsely claiming that Nuwa had sent her, but Jinghuan attacked anyway. Liu Zhong arrived in time to protect her and defeated Jinghuan. 33 34
After learning that her father was a cultivator, Jiaying asked him to teach her immortality. Liu Zhong agreed after testing her resolve, and she cultivated diligently for a decade before reaching Foundation Establishment. 34
When Jia Yuanchun began arranging her marriage, Jiaying refused and declared that she wished to become a Taoist nun. After demonstrating her spiritual power, she formally received Taoist rites at a temple in the capital, while continuing to live at the Liu Mansion and keep her mother company. 34 35
Following the deaths of Liu Zhong and Jia Yuanchun, Jiaying remained committed to cultivation. Having reached Golden Core and no longer wishing to disguise her unchanging youthful appearance with makeup, she departed the Liu Mansion to pursue her immortal path. 35
Appearance
Liu Jiaying is described as pretty, with bright, large eyes and a sweet manner that wins favor from the elders of Rongguo Mansion. As a child, she is repeatedly portrayed as chubby-faced and lively. 19 20 23

Personality
Jiaying is compassionate and protective. Her death in her previous life resulted from saving two children, and in her new life she first resolves to improve the fates of the Twelve Beauties and shield Liu Xianglian from a disastrous marriage. 19 24
She is curious, talkative, and fond of household gossip, especially news brought by Jiqiu. She also has enough self-awareness to admit that she lacks political insight and literary talent. 20 21 23
Her desire for immortality is unwavering. Though Liu Zhong warns her that cultivation is arduous, she insists that her mature mindset allows her to understand the commitment involved; she later refuses marriage in favor of becoming a Taoist nun. 34
