Background / History

Zhao Mu awakens Heibai at age six as a mutated martial soul. Unlike an ordinary beast martial soul, Heibai manifests independently, wanders off after awakening, and is found eating purple bamboo in the woods. Its life is linked to Zhao Mu's, making its disappearance immediately dangerous to him. 1

Heibai initially resists being treated as a subordinate, but accepts Zhao Mu's offer of food and safety. Its consumption of the purple bamboo transfers energy to Zhao Mu and condenses his first thousand-year soul ring, establishing the pair's unusual method of gaining soul rings through Heibai's meals. 1 2

After developing its first lightning-based form, the martial soul receives the name Heibai following an argument over whether the name is sufficiently majestic. Their fist bump formalizes a partnership rather than a conventional master-and-servant relationship. 3 4

Heibai develops successive thunder, Vajra, and ice-fire forms through Zhao Mu's soul rings. It later undergoes a frightening evolution, revealing itself as the Demon God Iron-Eating Beast; its roar spreads fear through soul beasts across multiple regions. 9 19 22

During the conflict with Medusa, Heibai combines forms, protects Zhao Mu and Dugu Bo in close combat, and ultimately defeats Medusa with a killing-intent domain, though it is left near exhaustion. 68 69 71

Afterward, Heibai continues consuming Immortal Herbs and spirit bones, gaining regenerative abilities and additional spirit-bone manifestations. It trains to fuse fire, water, earth, and lightning, though the process initially causes repeated explosions. 76 83 97

In the Lost Canyon, Heibai fights Dark Giant Beasts beside Zhao Mu, expands to giant size through Zhao Mu's seventh soul ring, and helps destroy one opponent's head with a multi-elemental attack. 140

Appearance

Heibai normally resembles a small panda-like creature less than one meter long, with soft black-and-white fur, a short wagging tail, round facial features, and large dark eye patches. 1

Heibai is food-motivated, proud, and strongly independent. Its first concern upon being persuaded to accompany Zhao Mu is whether “room and board” are included, and it repeatedly treats powerful herbs, bamboo, and stored snacks as desirable meals. 1 2 96

It has a pronounced sense of dignity. Heibai rejects an ordinary name, demands imposing names for its attacks, and internally frames yielding to stronger opponents as the tactical behavior of a “Panda King.” 3 4 19

Despite its refusal to be treated as a slave, Heibai becomes loyal to Zhao Mu. It follows his commands in battle, places itself between Zhao Mu and lethal attacks, and persists in hazardous attribute-fusion training. 11 18 83
