The technique is attributed to the Second Hokage, Tobirama Senju, though Minato states that it had existed since before Konohagakure's founding. Minato later became its foremost practitioner, refining its combat use through exceptional space-time talent and neural reaction speed 4 21 22.

Uchiha Yun acquired both Minato's space-time ninjutsu talent and the Flying Thunder God through the Information Exchange. His clone Uzumaki Sora subsequently used it in combat and theft operations, while Yun's other identity, Uzumaki Kong, employed it alongside Wood Release, Mangekyō techniques, and scroll-based kunai deployment 4 9 20 179.

Minato later offered formal instruction to Yun, explaining that he had initially mastered Flying Thunder God teleportation in one month. Yun accepted the training while concealing his prior proficiency 188.

Flying Thunder God allows its user to teleport instantly to a pre-established formula or coordinate.

Instantaneous Teleportation

The technique crosses space instantly once a coordinate is available.

• It allows users to evade attacks, reposition for close-range strikes, rescue allies, and withdraw from battle.
• Minato's use of multiple marked kunai made him difficult to track or force into a second move 108.

Limitations

• Reaction speed is essential. Teleportation is instantaneous, but the user's attack, defense, and body positioning upon arrival must keep pace. Without sufficient reflexes, the technique can leave its user exposed immediately after arrival 4 466 478.
• Space-time talent alone is insufficient. Learning the technique does not guarantee practical combat use; Minato's guards could only activate it cooperatively because of their limited aptitude 464 466.
• Coordinates can be neutralized. Danzo and Orochimaru targeted Sora's kunai with Wind Release and snakes, while Obito used the Uchiha Gunbai to sweep away Minato's marked kunai 20 291.
• Teleportation does not remove chakra-based tracking. Aburame insects that have consumed a target's chakra can follow them even through Flying Thunder God movement 20.
• Predictive abilities can counter it. Obito's foresight allowed him to attack Minato's intended arrival point at the moment of teleportation, making it a direct counter to the technique's usual speed advantage 36 291 293.
