Background / History
Xiao Yan was once a gifted cultivator whose Dou Qi suddenly vanished, leaving him at the bottom of his clan's expectations. After Yao Chen awakened within Gaunt's Ring, Xiao Yan gradually accepted the spirit as his master despite initially resenting the loss of his power. Their training restored his cultivation rapidly through Foundation Establishment Spirit Liquid, physical conditioning, and Dou Technique instruction. 105 106
To fund further cultivation, Xiao Yan sold a bargain version of Foundation Establishment Spirit Liquid at auction. His father, Xiao Zhan, unknowingly purchased it for 40,000 gold coins; Xiao Yan resolved to compensate him once he had the means. 106
Before the Xiao Clan's coming-of-age ceremony, Xiao Yan attained the ninth stage of Dou Qi. He publicly confirmed his return by defeating Xiao Ke with a single Fire Fist, leaving the challenger unconscious and ending doubts about his recovery. 111 112
Appearance
Xiao Yan is a handsome, black-clad youth whose nearly year-long physical training has replaced much of his childishness with a sturdier, more mature bearing. 109
- Usually wears a black shirt. 109
- Has a strengthened, well-built frame from intensive body training. 109
- Can surround his hand or body with flames while using his fire-based power. 107 112
Personality
Xiao Yan is intensely driven to regain strength after experiencing failure and humiliation. He is willing to endure Yao Chen's punishing training and even finish the revolting Mera Mera no Mi because he believes greater power is worth the sacrifice. 106 107
Though vigilant and initially distrustful of Yao Chen, he is not ungrateful. He comes to view his master's past absorption of his Dou Qi as tuition for an invaluable opportunity, and he wants to find a way to restore Yao Chen's body. 106 107
His time with Yao Chen makes him more playful without losing his inner caution. He also rejects the Xiao Clan's culture of jealousy and bullying, believing a proper clan should not treat weakness as a reason for contempt. 108 110
Abilities & Skills
