Background / History
Past-Life Memories and the Academy Dream
Flender possesses the cognition and soul of an ordinary person from twenty-first-century Earth. He understands this as awakening a previous life’s wisdom rather than straightforward transmigration or rebirth. Memories of compulsory education inspire him to establish an academy open to everyone, regardless of class, gender, or species 2.
Before founding the school, he spends years traveling with Zhao Wuji, Li Yusong, Lu Qibin, and Shao Xin as their squad leader. After settling near Suotuo City, he arranges regular, free Martial Soul awakenings for local children. He argues that becoming a Spirit Master is already a meaningful success for a commoner and that the academy itself can supply resources poor families lack 1.
Chat Group Establishment
After reaching the Spirit Saint threshold, Flender unlocks the Chat Group and begins communicating with Dumbledore and Samuel Oak. He shares information about his world and uploads his memories of the Harry Potter story. He wants the group to prevent tragedies, support open discussion, and provide educational experience for his own school—not merely reward him for revealing information 2 3.
Changes to the founding members’ fate lines trigger Basic Gift Packs. Flender’s reward transforms his Martial Soul and gives him ancient knowledge, allowing him to pursue a much stronger seventh Spirit Ring than originally planned 5 6 7.
Sunset Forest Expedition
Flender initially intends to hunt in Star Dou Forest, but switches to Sunset Forest to reduce the risk of attracting an unbeatable Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast. With all four old companions accompanying him, he uses his Ultimate Wind aura to attract a powerful wind-aligned opponent. He defeats a Royal Griffin through evasive tactics and a temporary burst of Titled Douluo-level power, then absorbs its 90,000-year ring 7 14 15 18 19 20 21.
Dugu Bo subsequently threatens him for his knowledge and holds his companions hostage. Flender requests Chat Group support, counters poison with Phoenix Tears, and confronts Dugu Bo using his Martial Soul Avatar. Their relationship later improves enough for Dugu Bo to insist they address each other as peers 22 23 38.
At the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, Flender harvests Immortal Herbs, including the Hunyuan Immortal Herb. Although he considers relocating to Sunset Forest, he returns to his original village rather than abandon the children he has promised to educate. He also secures Dugu Bo’s agreement to join his group 27 38.
Founding Tianxing Academy
Before the expedition, Flender entrusts half his life savings to Qin Ming for construction. Qin Ming completes the school in one week. Flender inspects its facilities, names it Tianxing Academy, and begins teaching Chu He and three village children whose Martial Souls would normally attract little interest from established schools 39 40.
He expands their education beyond Soul Power cultivation, consulting the Chat Group about age-appropriate martial arts training and introducing Rokushiki. He distributes carefully selected Immortal Herbs to students and teachers, then reviews teaching reports to ensure the original children are not neglected while the academy recruits more talented pupils 47 48 49 52.
Recruitment and Expansion
Flender takes in seven-year-old Oscar, awakens his Food God Martial Soul, and helps restore his underdeveloped body. He then recruits the abandoned Ouyang Sun and identifies his unusual, simultaneously summonable twin Martial Souls. Both children return to Tianxing Academy as his disciples and are subsequently placed under the care of the entire teaching staff 53 54 55 56 57.
The Dugu family, Nine Heart Begonia lineage, and Phoenix lineage later join the academy. Flender demonstrates its unusual teaching methods and offers Immortal Herbs as concrete assurances that the children will receive serious cultivation support 67 68.
Student Spirit Ring Hunts
After two months of physical conditioning, Flender leads Oscar and Ouyang Sun into Star Dou Forest with Zhao Wuji and Dugu Bo providing support. He defeats Plant Academy’s hidden Spirit Saint, Hu Qing, during a dispute over a Fire Giant Sequoia, securing Oscar’s first ring. He then guides Ouyang Sun through obtaining rings from a Golden Iron-Eating Beast and a Three-Headed Three-Eyed Ape 88 92 93 94 96 98 100.
During the expedition, he captures powerful Spirit Beasts for future student sparring and approximately thirty Iron Reckless Oxen for breeding or meat. After returning, he entrusts the children’s continuing training to Qin Ming 99 100.
When Ma Hongjun’s Evil Fire Phoenix awakening causes problems, Flender seeks a better remedy than simply feeding him an Immortal Herb. Following Yao Chen’s awakening, he asks the alchemist to examine whether the Cockscomb Phoenix Sunflower can be refined into a more effective pill 103 105.
Appearance
- Everyday appearance: A middle-aged man in a black robe, with shoulder-length hair, square glasses, and a styled beard. His otherwise unremarkable appearance carries a sharp, hawk-like intensity 47.
- Martial Soul transformation: His original Cat-Eagle changes into a Wind Eagle whose form more closely embodies wind itself 6.
- Bone Armor True Form: Appears as dazzling emerald-green and azure-blue armor surrounding his body 5.
Personality
Flender is committed to educational opportunity without pretending that innate talent does not matter. He frankly explains his students’ weak Martial Souls, then gives them practical ways to improve. Recruiting geniuses does not replace his responsibility toward the academy’s less gifted children 1 40 47 52 54.
His companions repeatedly call him an “old miser,” and he jokes that treating them to a meal is unlikely. Nevertheless, he finances the school with his savings, provides nutritious food, and shares rare Immortal Herbs. His thrift does not prevent substantial investment in people he intends to nurture 20 39 47 49.
He balances ambition with contingency planning. He targets an unusually old seventh ring but brings his entire squad, chooses the less dangerous forest, and readily calls for help against Dugu Bo. He likewise advises Zephyr to accumulate resources and allies before attempting political change 7 22 28.
As a teacher, he respects a student’s autonomy when the chosen path is sound. He also accepts that students can improve their teacher’s understanding: Ouyang Sun’s suggestion of barbecue prompts him to rethink Oscar’s Food God development around cooking techniques rather than ingredients alone 90 94.
Abilities & Skills
Wind Eagle and Ultimate Wind
His evolved Martial Soul is a top-tier wind-attribute beast Martial Soul 6 15.
- Grants flight, high-speed movement, and the ability to carry others through the air 15 54 56.
- Naturally suppresses wind-aligned Spirit Masters and Spirit Beasts 14.
- Uses surrounding wind to sense living creatures and monitor terrain 15 21.
- Produces cutting wind blades and restrains opponents through wind pressure 92 99.
- Can exploit wind generated by an enemy’s own attacks to aid his movement 18.
Wind Domain
The initial domain extends over a 100-meter radius, automatically reduces enemy speed by 20%, and allows Flender to exert 150% of his normal speed. These ratios can improve as his Martial Soul and Soul Power grow 6.
- Provides early warning and evasive advantages against the Royal Griffin 18.
- Slows Dugu Bo and helps disperse toxin-bearing Soul Power during their confrontation 23.
- Overwhelms Hu Qing despite both fighters being Spirit Saints 92.
Spirit Skills and Temporary Power Bursts
| Ability | Applications and limits |
|---|---|
| Sixth Spirit Skill: Soaring Ten Thousand Miles Body | Enables a high-speed counterattack against the Royal Griffin and doubles his speed when used against Dugu Bo 18 23. |
| Seventh Spirit Skill: Martial Soul Avatar | Used to confront Dugu Bo after obtaining his seventh ring 22. |
| Temporary Titled Douluo-level power | Kills the older Royal Griffin in one strike and severely wounds the younger one. Exhausts his Soul Power, requiring meditation afterward 19 20. |
| King of Raptors Spirit Bone Skill | Used to survey Star Dou Forest while accompanying his students 90. |
Forbidden Divine Knowledge
The Basic Gift Pack grants inheritances from an era before the continent’s gods, including knowledge of the steps toward godhood 5.
- Understands how Spirit Rings nourish Spirit Bones and how the seventh ring affects the eventual Bone Armor True Form 7.
- Knows methods for artificially creating Spirit Rings and Spirit Bones, although materials restrict what he can produce 20.
- Knows that Martial Soul mutations can be artificially induced and directed positively; he considers using this knowledge for his companions 20.
- Controls his sea of consciousness sufficiently to subdue and absorb the Royal Griffin’s invading soul 20.
Martial Arts and Cross-World Techniques
Flender learns most of Zephyr’s Rokushiki almost seamlessly because explosive movement, air-walking, air blades, and claw-like attacks already overlap with his expertise. Tekkai is the exception: his fighting style avoids directly enduring blows 48.
- Adapts Rokushiki instruction to each child’s physique rather than requiring everyone to master all six techniques 48.
- Combines breathing methods from Bang, Master Shifu, and Uncle Chan with Soul Power cultivation into student training methods 48 94.
- Teaches Pokémon-derived techniques as Self-Created Soul Skills, including Glare for Dugu Yan and Heal Bell for Ye Lingling 69 70.
Teaching and Academy Management
- Selects Spirit Rings for long-term Martial Soul compatibility, not merely immediate strength 40 41 89.
- Requires support-type students to develop physical fitness and self-protection 69.
- Conditions students’ bodies before ring absorption through nutrition, training, and, in Oscar’s case, direct Soul Power nourishment 54 88.
- Reviews teaching logs and expects instructors to improve their academic competence 52.
- Intends Qin Ming to succeed him as dean, with Zhao Wuji serving as vice-headmaster 52.
Chat Group Access and Foreknowledge
His Earth memories let him recognize members and explain events from their worlds. The group can refine shared stories into members’ true destiny trajectories 2 11 43.
- Uses thought-based messages to request aid almost instantly 22.
- Receives cross-world resources and support through Red Packets 22.
- Livestreams student fitness tests for consultation with other teachers 47.
- Uses foreknowledge to encourage early intervention in threats and troubled disciples’ development 10 43 44 45.
