Background / History
Jor-El sent Kal-El to Earth as an infant after embedding the Central Codex—containing Krypton’s genetic talents—within his cells. Raised on Earth for thirty-three years, Clark came to identify himself as both Kryptonian and an Earthling. 133 138 276
Before the Kryptonian invasion, Superman operated openly as Earth’s foremost hero, including rescuing workers from a Gulf of Mexico oil-rig explosion. Lex Luthor developed an extensive satellite network to track him and came to view Superman’s protection as a threat to humanity’s independence. 111
Superman’s first confrontation with Alex ended disastrously when he misjudged the strength necessary to break Alex’s Magnetic Psionics defense, nearly killing him. Horrified by the apparent death, Superman resolved to take responsibility and surrender to the police. 115 116
While investigating Alex’s attack on Luthor, Superman exposed Luthor’s human experimentation through X-ray examination of his neural activity and located his experimental facilities. He refused to let Alex execute Luthor, placing the two heroes in open conflict; Alex retaliated by revealing Superman’s civilian identity, Clark Kent, to Luthor. 117 119
When General Zod’s forces arrived, Superman confronted their reconnaissance fighter and flew to the Kryptonian Mothership. There, Kryptonian gas and Red Sun radiation left him powerless, while Zod sought the Central Codex inside his body to rebuild Krypton by terraforming Earth. Superman refused to sacrifice humanity for Krypton’s rebirth. 129 133 138
Alex restored Earth’s atmosphere and sunlight to the Mothership’s medical bay, allowing Superman to recover. After learning that Zod had murdered Martha Kent, Superman’s grief drove him to destroy the Mothership with Heat Vision, setting its wreckage on a course toward Earth. 140 141
During the invasion’s final battle, Superman prioritized saving the 900,000 people beneath the falling Mothership, but Zod struck him down with Heat Vision. Superman later accidentally killed Zod; the invasion left millions dead and Metropolis devastated. 145 146 157
Superman fought Doomsday in Metropolis and attempted to move the battle into space to limit civilian damage. A nuclear strike left him severely injured and unable to continue effectively until Alex killed Doomsday with Kryptonite-infused arms. 291 292 295 300
Following the Apokolips war, Superman publicly pushed for an independent superhero league. He ultimately founded the Justice League with Earth’s major heroes, including Alex as the Dragon King. 314 317 318
Appearance
Superman wears a close-fitting blue suit marked with an S emblem and a red cape. His arrival at supersonic speed is often preceded by a white sonic trail and explosive air pressure. 115 145

- Red cape that trails behind him in flight. 115

Personality
Superman is deeply compassionate and treats human life as sacred. His accidental near-killing of Alex devastates him, and he insists on accepting legal responsibility rather than escaping consequences. 115 116
His morality is resolute but not simplistic. He refuses to allow Alex to murder Luthor, even after discovering Luthor’s crimes, and intends to dismantle the experimentation network through legal and compensatory means. 119
Clark’s loyalty to Earth is central to his identity. Though he wants to preserve his remaining Kryptonian kin and initially seeks coexistence, he refuses Zod’s plan once he understands it would exterminate humanity. 133 140
