Suiya Sarutobi immediately rushed forward to stop him! But for some reason, Kyō Uchiha formed hand seals and released his jutsu incredibly fast. It was already too late!
"Water Release: Water Formation Wall." Suiya Sarutobi used Water Release to put out the fire, but the thick smoke and steam made it impossible to see what was happening in the training ground.
But his instincts told him that something was definitely wrong with Kyō Uchiha!
"Torifu!" Izori Uchiha's pupils contracted. Then crimson spread across them, and two tomoe began to spin.
This was the Uchiha Clan's Kekkei Genkai: the Sharingan! She had successfully awakened her Two-Tomoe Sharingan when she was just five years old.
The students around them were all stunned by what had happened. No one even noticed that Izori had activated her Sharingan.
"Torifu!" Maruboshi Kosuke was the first to try to rush over, but their teacher stopped him.
"Damn it! He's trying to kill him!"
"That lunatic! He actually used a jutsu to ambush Torifu!"
The students were all worried by this sudden turn of events. Torifu was popular, and almost everyone in class was his friend, so they were all frantic!
Izori felt terribly guilty. She should have told Torifu to be more careful, but she had never imagined Kyō Uchiha would go so far as to try to kill him.
Besides, Kyō Uchiha shouldn't have been able to release a jutsu so quickly. Even their teacher hadn't had time to stop him!
In her panic, she activated her Sharingan and tried to see how Torifu was doing through the thick smoke. But what she saw left her dumbfounded.
"Teacher, Torifu isn't in the training ground. There's only a... rock?" Even Izori wasn't sure what she was seeing. How had Torifu turned into a rock? And it didn't look like an ordinary rock, either.
Suiya Sarutobi was just as stunned by the news. How had he turned into a rock?
"Wind Release: Gale Palm." Since he only needed to blow away the smoke and steam, he didn't use much Chakra.
A gust of wind burst from his palm, and at last the students could see what was happening. Kyō Uchiha looked as though a female ghost had sucked the life out of him. His entire body had shriveled up.
But there was no sign of Kumonaka Torikaze. Instead, they saw a pale-pink, transparent crystal statue that looked exactly like him, gleaming in the sunlight.
"Teacher, can Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu turn someone into crystal?" Maruboshi Kosuke asked, utterly baffled.
Suiya Sarutobi didn't know what to say. He could only answer with the first thing that came to mind: "It can turn someone into fertilizer."
"Idiot, that's not me!" Kumonaka Torikaze smacked Maruboshi Kosuke on the head.
Kosuke was taken aback by the blow and felt a little annoyed. Then he realized that Kumonaka Torikaze was standing behind him.
"Huh! Torikaze! You're not dead!"
Torikaze said irritably, "Were you hoping I'd die?"
Maruboshi Kosuke scratched his head and gave a sheepish grin. "No, no. Of course I'm glad you're okay."
"Good thing you're all right, Torikaze. You gave us quite a scare."
Teacher Sarutobi was still shaken, too. If a student had died on his first day teaching, he had no idea how the clan would punish him.
Kumonaka Torikaze assured Teacher Sarutobi that he was fine, then walked over to Kyō Uchiha.
"Torikaze..."
Torikaze turned around and saw Izori looking at him, her expression conflicted.
"Don't worry. I won't kill him."
Torikaze walked up to Kyō Uchiha, who lay on the ground looking like a dried corpse, and picked him up with one hand.
"He's so light."
Then he turned toward a thick tree and hurled Kyō Uchiha high into the air.
"Crystal Style: Hexagonal Shuriken Dance!"
With a wave of his hand, countless hexagonal crystal shards spun and whirled through the air like shuriken. Sunlight refracted through them in a dazzling display, like a spectacular light show.
The hexagonal crystals struck the edge of Kyō Uchiha's clothes with pinpoint accuracy. Their tremendous force sent him flying several meters before pinning him firmly to the tree, without so much as scratching his skin.
"Is that... crystal?" Izori thought she knew quite a bit about jutsu, but she had never seen anything like the techniques Torikaze had used today.
A thought occurred to her.
Could this be a Kekkei Genkai?
Kumonaka Torikaze dusted off his hands and brushed the dirt from his clothes. He didn't care in the slightest that his Crystal Release had been exposed. In fact, he had wanted people to see it. Otherwise, he could easily have used a different jutsu.
Before long, many shinobi noticed the commotion and hurried over.
After Suiya Sarutobi explained what had happened, they immediately took Kyō Uchiha away.
According to the rules, anyone who deliberately harmed someone in the village had to be handed over to Lord Hokage for judgment. The punishment could be imprisonment or execution.
Whatever happened, Kyō Uchiha was in for a grim fate.
"Torikaze, what kind of jutsu was that?"
"Teacher Sarutobi, that was my Kekkei Genkai: Crystal Release."
A Kekkei Genkai! And it was in his class! What's more, his research showed that Crystal Release had never appeared in history before!
He had to report this to Lord Hokage!
"Class is over for today, everyone. Go home and take the rest of the day off. We'll continue tomorrow."
Naturally, the students were delighted to get the rest of the day off. They all knew they had Torikaze to thank for it, so they thanked him before scattering. Only Izori remained where she was.
"I had no idea you were so strong, Torikaze. I guess I worried for nothing," Izori said, sounding a little put out.
"Ahem. I'm treating today. Eat whatever you want! How about it?"
Izori immediately broke into a smile. "Sure! Just you watch—I'm going to eat you into poverty!"
"The Kumonaka Clan may lack everything, but we're never short on money."
They exchanged smiles and headed toward the Akimichi BBQ Restaurant.
In the Hokage Office, Senju Hashirama was going over paperwork. He had naturally noticed what had just happened and had wanted to go there himself, but Tobirama had stopped him. His reason was that the Hokage couldn't handle everything personally; his subordinates needed opportunities to learn, too.
Just then, the office door opened, and Suiya Sarutobi walked in.
"Lord Hokage, Lord Tobirama, I failed in my duty. Please punish me."
Hashirama waved a hand, signaling that he didn't need to blame himself. "Tell me what happened."
Suiya Sarutobi reported everything that had happened during the practical lesson.
Tobirama's expression darkened. "The Uchiha Clan are evil by nature. Not one of them knows how to behave! They actually dared to fight openly in the village!"
Hashirama found the situation troubling, too, but at least Kumonaka Torikaze hadn't been hurt.
"So Torikaze has already mastered his clan's Cloud Release secret technique?"
"Cloud Release?" Suiya Sarutobi asked in confusion. "Why do I keep hearing terms I don't understand?"
"Lord Hashirama, Torikaze said his ability was... Crystal Release."
At that, Senju Hashirama and Senju Tobirama could no longer stay seated. They slammed their hands on the desk, cracking it!
"What? Crystal Release! Wasn't it Cloud Release?!"
