Background / History
Shrek Academy stood at the center of the continent for roughly twenty thousand years. It grew from a dilapidated village into an institution occupying Shrek City, with autonomous laws and currency; its prestige was closely tied to the legacy of Tang San and the Shrek Seven Devils. 122 204 277
The academy traditionally presented itself as the continent's foremost cultivator of exceptional soul masters. Its leadership believed that the continent's greatest talents should enter Shrek, while its educational model selected gifted students and placed them in a highly competitive environment to produce “monsters.” 111 206
Its special status and conduct increasingly drew criticism. Shrek students’ final examinations required travel between cities and challenges against soul masters of comparable cultivation; these examinations repeatedly caused public disturbances. The academy’s “a soul master who doesn’t dare to cause trouble is a mediocre one” philosophy was cited during the Mingdu incidents. 167 169 181
Leadership and Organization
- Sea God Pavilion — Shrek Academy’s central leadership body, based on Sea God Island. 111
- Yun Ming — Pavilion Master and principal; attempted to contain the academy’s escalating political, reputational, and enrollment crises. 120 165 206
- Yali — Holy Spirit Douluo and Sea God Pavilion member; handled exchange activities and attempted reconciliation with Yun Chen. 167 226
- Zhuo Shi — Red Dragon Douluo; later became Dean of the Outer Court and led recruitment-related responses. 111 206
- Long Yeyue — Elder whose insistence on Shrek’s traditions and status repeatedly clashed with reform-minded concerns. 169 211
- Cai Yue'er — Former Outer Court Dean; her attempt to force Yun Chen into Shrek triggered major backlash against the academy. 151 160 206
Academy Culture and Practices
- Shrek’s students were taught to regard the academy’s glory and honor as paramount. 105 167
- Its final examinations sent students to designated cities, where they had to challenge soul masters at least as strong as themselves; collateral disturbances were common. 169
- The academy’s broad alumni network had historically extended across many industries and institutions. 168
- Shrek maintained a close relationship with the Tang Sect, which later served as an intermediary for scarce resources after other channels withdrew support. 169
Major Arcs
Tianhai Alliance Tournament
Shrek sent a seven-person team to challenge the youth-group champions at the Tianhai Alliance Tournament. The team entered believing the match would amount to bullying weaker opponents, and Shen Yi emphasized that they carried Shrek’s victory-forged glory. 105
Yun Chen’s Eastsea Academy team defeated Shrek’s representatives, ending the academy’s long-standing undefeated reputation in the event. The loss prompted Sea God Pavilion to consider recruiting the victorious students instead of pursuing another challenge. 119 120
Recruitment Conflict and Public Backlash
Shrek attempted to recruit Yun Chen and his companions after the tournament. Zhuo Shi offered terms comparable to those of the Sun Moon Royal Soul Master Academy, but Yun Chen ultimately refused due to Shrek’s reputation and his existing commitment elsewhere. 124 125
Cai Yue'er later confronted Yun Chen at the Sun Moon Royal Soul Master Academy, accused him of betraying his teachers and ancestors, and attacked him when he refused Shrek. Her actions generated a Federation investigation, public condemnation, institutional boycotts, and widespread student withdrawals. 151 160 165 168
Mingdu Final-Exam Incidents
Despite Yun Ming’s desire to reform the final examinations, the Sea God Pavilion retained the traditional format and selected Mingdu as a destination. Shrek students subsequently assaulted Sun Moon Royal Soul Master Academy students while seeking Yun Chen. 169 180
Mingdu surveillance recorded the attacks, leading the Security Department to order arrests. Yun Chen confronted the students, killing one and later killing their intervening teacher during the ensuing conflict. 181 182
The Federation moved to strip Shrek Academy of its special status after reviewing the academy’s repeated violations and the damage caused during its exams. 184
Declining Enrollment and Repeated Defeats
The Tianhai defeat, Cai Yue'er scandal, withdrawals, and declining quota applications sharply reduced Shrek’s intake. The academy considered relaxing admission standards, recruiting talented students in advance, and entering competitions to restore its public image. 165 206
Its Outer Court team was defeated again at the Mingdu Grand Competition by Sun Moon Royal Soul Master Academy students, including Na’er and Long Chen’s group. 210 211
Star Luo Exchange Conflict
Shrek persuaded the Star Luo Delegation to hold its exchange at Shrek Academy rather than the Sun Moon Royal Soul Master Academy, seeking to preserve face. The visiting Sun Moon delegation was initially ignored for half a day, leading Yun Chen to attempt to leave in protest. 225
The exchange escalated through blacksmithing and soul-duel competitions. Yun Chen’s confrontation with Shrek elders, followed by Long Yeyue’s attack, developed into an open clash in which Shrek’s elder masters were overwhelmed by Yun Chen’s divine power. 228 233 234
Collapse of Faith and Abyssal Tide
Elder Jin revealed that Ah Yin had consumed the life and soul origins of fallen Sea God Pavilion masters, hindering the Golden Ancient Tree’s evolution. Elder Jin transferred the tree’s origin to Yun Chen and entered deep slumber, leaving Shrek’s future unstable; Yun Ming then proposed reconsidering the academy’s relationship with Tang San. 277
During the Abyssal Tide, Abyssal Creatures overran Shrek Academy. Teachers and elders fought to protect evacuating students, while outside factions—including the Spirit Pagoda and Tang Sect—helped establish a defensive line. 294 295
The academy’s outer court and most of its grounds fell, Sea God Lake was polluted by abyssal power, and only parts of Sea God Island remained intact. By the later conflict, Shrek Academy was described as destroyed, with rebuilding opposed by public opinion, major factions, and Yun Chen. 296 311
Relationships
- Tang Sect — Longstanding ally; provided resource channels after Shrek’s trade relationships deteriorated. 169
- Douluo Federation — Maintained a fraught relationship with Shrek due to its autonomous status, political influence, and student conduct; later moved against its special status. 122 184
- Sun Moon Royal Soul Master Academy — Major institutional rival; conflicts centered on Yun Chen, recruitment, tournament defeats, and the Mingdu final-exam incidents. 151 180 210
- Spirit Pagoda — Uneasy rival; Shrek’s recruitment of Yun Chen and Na’er risked worsening an already poor relationship. 120
- Blacksmith’s Association — Its support deteriorated after Cai Yue'er’s actions; Zhen Hua cut off metal trade with Shrek City, threatening the academy’s Battle Armor production. 165
- Yun Chen — Rejected Shrek’s recruitment and regarded the academy as a source of “disorder” because of its conduct and influence. 125 167
- Tang San — Foundational symbolic figure in Shrek’s legacy and faith; this connection was questioned after Elder Jin’s revelations. 277
Trivia
- Shrek Academy possessed its own laws and currency within Shrek City. 122
- Its reputation was once strong enough that some supporters treated Shrek’s glory as a personal identity despite having no direct connection to the academy. 117
- Before its decline, the academy’s graduates were widespread enough across society that its leadership considered leveraging alumni influence to rebuild; Yali rejected the proposal. 311
