April 2015
"Wha... what is going on!" I was utterly bewildered, staring at the people and objects around me.
But then, when I tilted my head slightly and saw the girl on the other side of the bus aisle, I became even more unsettled.
"Horikita Suzune, seriously?"
Feeling as if it were unbelievable, I took another look—it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say I observed her carefully.
Yes, confirmed. This person really is Horikita Suzune, which means I have transmigrated into the world of Classroom of the Elite.
After calming down slightly, memories flooded into my brain like a tide; they were the memories of the original owner of this body, Ayanokoji Kiyotaka.
Even though I knew the plot progression and the strength of the characters in the series, I still found the sheer volume of knowledge and the fluid, instinctual combat ability of Ayanokoji Kiyotaka to be unbelievable.
You're telling me this is what a high school student who just started school possesses? Any single one of these fields, if taken alone, would represent a lifetime of effort for an ordinary person, or even someone with a bit of talent.
After about a minute, I finally pulled myself out of that vast ocean of memories.
Coincidentally, at this moment, a woman in office attire was criticizing the blonde boy in the seat across from her.
Feeling that she truly couldn't persuade Koenji, the woman asked us, "Is there anyone who can give up their seat to this elderly person? Please, everyone."
Everyone remained silent.
After a few dozen seconds, I stood up and gestured for the elderly woman to take my seat.
"Thank you, you're such a good child," the old woman said in thanks before sitting down.
I walked over to the side of the woman and stood with her; she nodded at me, her eyes filled with gratitude.
At the same time, another gaze fell upon me—it was Kushida.
She must have been about to stand up to offer her seat, but I had beaten her to it. Heh, I had used such a good opportunity to perform a kind deed, but I should have also given Kushida a good first impression.
After that, nothing happened. During the journey to Kodo Ikusei, I secretly observed my surroundings and found that most of the people on this bus were familiar faces.
Like Horikita Suzune, Kushida Kikyo, Sudo Ken...
A while later, as the bus braked and arrived at Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing High School, I was the first to get off since I had been standing.
As I walked toward the main gate of Kodo Ikusei, I looked over this top-tier Japanese high school. So grand and imposing, I thought to myself.
"Hey, wait a second."
A cold voice came from behind, and then I saw Horikita Suzune walk up beside me.
I knew what she was there for, but I still asked politely, "Is something the matter?"
"You looked at me twice on the bus just now. What was that about? Especially the second time—I strongly felt your piercing gaze."
Horikita Suzune had originally intended to say "disgusting gaze," but considering that I had given up my seat to the old woman, she judged that I probably wasn't a pervert.
"You are Horikita Suzune-san, right?"
"You... how do you know that?" For a split second, Horikita thought I was another pervert who had done something like stalking her.
"Haha, please don't worry. I know you because I attended the junior high school next to yours."
"Are you from Tokyo Riei Junior High School? That is indeed very close to my junior high."
Horikita pondered for a moment, then felt something was off. "But I didn't have many friends in junior high, and I didn't have much of a presence. Logically, you shouldn't know me."
Thinking of this, Horikita's gaze seemed to turn sharp again.
I gave a wry smile and put on an expression as if I were about to explain the truth. "Actually, I know you because of your brother, Horikita Manabu-senpai. I admire him very much."
Hearing this, Horikita Suzune revealed an "I see" expression.
"Um, can we talk while we walk? After all, we need to get to the classroom first, and we have to attend the entrance ceremony later," I suggested.
Horikita Suzune nodded and matched my pace.
"Actually, the reason I came to this school is that I found out Horikita Manabu-senpai is also here."
Upon hearing me say this, the calm look on Horikita's face turned to one of great surprise.
Or rather, Horikita Suzune felt it was too much of a coincidence, as the reason I came to this school was the same as hers.
As we chatted, we walked together to the door of the classroom marked with the Class 1-D sign.
At this, both Horikita Suzune and I showed expressions of disbelief—though mine was faked.
"You're in Class 1-D too?" It wasn't hard to hear the surprise in Horikita Suzune's tone.
"Yes, Horikita-san. You are so excellent, please take care of me."
By the time she and I reached our respective seats, I pretended not to know where Horikita Suzune was sitting, and after sitting down, I turned my head to look out the window.
When Horikita Suzune reached her seat, she discovered that I was to her left. However, seeing that I was looking out the window, she didn't disturb me and sat down on her own.
Before long, the bell signaling the start of the school year rang. The homeroom teacher walked into the classroom, and everyone returned to their seats.
I sized up Chabashira Sae. She was wearing professional attire with her hair in a high ponytail, which fit her image from the original work quite well. She looked to be around thirty, perhaps not quite thirty yet. I smiled without leaving a trace; women of this age have a very distinct charm.
She scanned the classroom once, then began to speak: "I am your homeroom teacher, Chabashira Sae. I will be spending the next three years with you."
"I am in charge of teaching history and literature. Of course, I won't be lecturing our class, but if you have any questions regarding those subjects, you can ask me."
"I assume you have all read the school-related materials and information before enrollment, so I will keep this brief."
"Our school is one that upholds the principle of meritocracy. Here, if you have ability, you rise; if you lack it, you remain at the bottom. We are currently in that bottom position, but I hope you will pull yourselves together and strive toward Class A."
"Next, I will distribute your student IDs. Each contains 100,000 points, and you will receive 100,000 points at the beginning of every month from now on. In this school, there is nothing that cannot be bought with points. If there is, it simply means you don't have enough points."
"You will be here for the next three years. You cannot see your families, and you cannot leave the campus. This is also a good stage for personal growth; it all depends on how you handle it."
"Alright, that is all. In one hour, make your way to the gymnasium for the entrance ceremony. I will be waiting for you there."
"Dismissed." After distributing the student IDs, Chabashira left the classroom.
"Wow, wow, wow! We actually get 100,000 yen every month? I must be dreaming. If I am, I hope I never wake up," a boy exclaimed.
I glanced over; it was Ike Kanji howling.
I secretly resolved not to get involved with Ike Kanji or Yamauchi Haruki in this class. Those two are the definition of dead weight.
Not only are they useless, but they are also driven entirely by their libidos. If they were as badass as Ayanokoji, I wouldn't have a word to say even if they played their tyrannosaurus to death.
Feeling that the time was right, Hirata Yosuke stood up, wearing a gentle smile as he faced his classmates. "We still have an hour left. How about we use this time to introduce ourselves? It will help us become friends faster. What do you all think?"
"If there are no objections, I will start with my own introduction." He looked around, seemingly satisfied that no one opposed him.
"My name is Hirata Yosuke. In middle school, everyone usually called me Yosuke, so I would like you all to call me by my first name as well. I am interested in every kind of sport, but I am particularly fond of soccer. I plan to play soccer at this school as well. I look forward to working with you all."
Hmm, this could be considered a model introduction. There is nothing to criticize; one could even say it was perfect.
But hey, hey, hey, you're hogging a bit too much of the spotlight, aren't you? If I hadn't transmigrated into Ayanokoji, that would be fine, but now I have no reason to let Ayanokoji suffer any grievances.
Thinking this, I stood up, an aura of confidence radiating from me.
At this moment, the entire class looked at me. I didn't feel nervous; I nodded to everyone and began my introduction.
"Hello everyone, my name is Ayanokoji Kiyotaka. Much like Hirata-kun, I am interested in most sports and have a fairly broad range of athletic experience. At the same time, I am quite confident in my studies. If any classmates have trouble understanding something, feel free to ask me later. Oh, and I am also quite skilled at cooking. Alright, that's all from me; I'll leave the time for the next classmate."
After I finished, a round of applause broke out in the room. Hirata was also smiling and clapping for me, perhaps thinking that I was supporting his initiative or simply feeling that I was indeed excellent.
After I sat down, I immediately felt a gaze from my right. I turned my head and asked with a smile what was wrong.
Horikita Suzune looked a bit puzzled. "I thought you were quite introverted. I didn't expect you to be so outgoing, and based on what you've shown, I didn't expect you to be so capable."
"Haha, it's nothing much. It's mainly because I'm trying to live up to the example of Horikita Manabu-senpai; I've been influenced by him."
Upon hearing me mention the name of Horikita Manabu, Horikita seemed to ponder for a moment before saying to me, "I hope you won't spread the fact that I am his sister. It would be very troublesome for me."
I nodded, returning a look that told her she could rest easy.
Following that, a few more people introduced themselves, such as Ike Kanji, Yamauchi Haruki, and Inogashira Kokoro. Including my own, fewer than ten people had introduced themselves so far.
