History
Milky-white mycelium spread across a starship graveyard after the Lantern Keeper launched a seed into the sea of stars. The mats supported a vast Fungal Brain that merged the consciousnesses of affected civilizations. Rebels who laid down their weapons were reorganized on the mat into photosynthetic, silicon-based plants 36.
The fungal mat later entered explorer Luosang’s ship, converting metal bulkheads into flesh-like tissue and altering her mechanical prosthetics. In the new universe, the Fungal Carpet also devoured mechanical wreckage, while its cells produced miniature Codex Steles containing erased clauses of The Final Chapter 37 44 45.
Its metabolism became dangerous during the Cradle Era: a storm formed around it, and one section became a maw that swallowed Photon Cradles, mutating the embryos inside into Codex Steles. When the infant girl touched Medical Pod 00000, the carpet carbonized into ash; its ashes subsequently re-aggregated into carbon-based soil 46. A fungal mat remained present in later events, bearing a monument and thornless roses. Photosynthetic Fluid eventually formed a new metabolic network on the Fungal Carpet 47 49.
