Kara did not know much about Gotham.
She only knew that Gotham Asylum was famous, housing many superhumans with abnormal mental states. It was both a prison and a hospital. Someone with a mental condition like Ian's ought to stay there for a few days.
"Huh? Cousin Aunt works with Gotham Asylum too?" Ian frowned. He felt that Kara wanted to use him to boost her performance, then take a kickback from Batman over in Gotham.
"I just want you to be a little more normal!" Kara caught Ian's suspicious gaze and smacked her forehead again, her face full of indescribable frustration.
"I'm perfectly normal, and I obey the law. I'd wager that at least eighty percent of people in America respect the law less than I do." Ian's voice was filled with confident conviction.
He knew he was telling the truth.
"No, you stole a criminal's car, then sold it to gang members through extraordinary channels... You do realize that's also a crime, right?"
Kara's voice suddenly jumped several octaves. She stared at Ian's confidence in utter disbelief. Honestly, even if she had a hundred years, she did not think she could come up with an operation like that. He had broken several laws in a row, and nobody had gained anything from it. What was the point of doing that?!
"I didn't steal the car. I merely drove away in the robber's car. How could that not count as an emergency measure?" Ian seemed to channel Sister Haochun, blinking innocently like a pure white lotus.
"That's still a crime!"
Kara sighed helplessly.
"So that counts as a crime... Hey, I'm still a child. What do I know?" Ian scratched his head even though it did not itch, then flashed a sunny boy's smile.
That expression made Kara want to hit someone.
"Looking at you, you clearly knew your actions were wrong all along!" She could be a little naive sometimes, but she could still tell that Ian was obviously not telling the truth.
In response to his cousin aunt's merciless exposure, Ian merely spread his hands, the smile on his face becoming even brighter.
"Relax, the jury won't see it that way. Besides... I have a doctor's certificate." As he spoke, Ian pulled out that crumpled medical slip again and waved it a few times.
It truly was a devastating weapon.
The confident boy believed that no psychiatric hospital in Metropolis could hold him.
"You... you..."
Kara's face turned red from holding it in, and she did not know how to respond for a long time. Damn!
Why was the child Clark had raised like this? Could it be that she had never truly understood Clark's real personality? After Ian rendered her speechless several times, Kara could not help questioning Clark's moral character.
For a child to turn out like this, Kara did not believe from the bottom of her heart that Clark bore no responsibility.
"Come in first..."
Kara did not want to argue with Ian about this anymore. She felt that if she wanted to avoid Kryptonian high blood pressure, she had to pretend she had never heard this story from her cheap nephew.
"Click~"
Kara opened the door to her home and went in first. Warm white lights came on, and Ian followed close behind. A faint scent of lavender laundry detergent lingered in the room.
It was a typical single-apartment layout. Kara did not earn much as an assistant secretary, and being able to afford a place like this already counted as a pretty good financial situation.
The open kitchen counter gleamed spotlessly. Two upside-down mugs sat beside a stainless steel kettle. Two pots of pothos rested on the windowsill, their leaves swaying gently in the breeze from the balcony.
The entire living room was not large, but it was meticulously organized. A gray blanket was neatly folded on the beige fabric sofa, and several minimalist landscape paintings hung on the walls. A small photo frame sat atop the TV cabinet—the Kara in the photo wore casual clothes and held up a peace sign in front of some tourist attraction on Earth.
The sofa was rather messy, though, and the coffee table held a remote control and several fashion magazines. Of course, that had been one blink ago.
Before his last blink, Ian had clearly seen a woman's bra and panties on the coffee table. Yet after the next blink, everything had disappeared. All that remained was his young cousin aunt awkwardly smiling at him.
"..." Ian felt that he had suffered merciless humiliation at the hands of a relative. A Kryptonian had used Super Speed to bully his intelligence, and she even looked like she thought he would not notice anything.
"Cousin Aunt likes pink little lions too?"
Ian's eyes could capture movement much faster than ordinary people's. So even though Kara had moved like lightning, he could still clearly recall what he had seen in that single "frame" during his blink.
"I don't know what you're talking about!"
Kara tried to cover it up.
She wanted to frown and act confused, but upon sensing Ian's silent stare, her gaze was clearly guilty. She could only turn to look toward the windowsill instead.
"Disney merchandise really does sell well. That gave me an idea too... Once my novel becomes a huge hit, I'll sell merchandise as well." Ian pondered as if he had discovered a way to make money.
"You write novels too?" Kara looked at Ian in surprise.
She had truly never seen a fourteen- or fifteen-year-old child dream of becoming a writer and actually put it into practice. No matter how well he wrote, Kara felt that such a hobby deserved encouragement.
"Yes, I'm writing My Superman Father." Ian answered honestly. He really was telling the truth, though he had not told all of it.
"Your father agreed to let you write his story?" Kara was visibly surprised. She knew all too well how thoroughly Clark separated Superman's life from his ordinary life.
"This is a form of self-healing recommended by my psychiatrist. I think Father supports my writing quite a lot. Every time he sees my drafts, his face gets so excited that it turns red."
Ian employed one of the Thirty-Six Stratagems: swapping the concept.
And the innocent Kara did not doubt him at all.
"Then it sounds like you write pretty well."
She even grew curious about Ian's novel.
"Yes. When the time comes, Cousin Aunt, please buy a few copies too. I already submitted it to a publisher on my way here today. I'm not worried at all about whether it can be published successfully and become a huge hit."
Ian spoke with complete confidence.
"No problem."
Kara agreed without a second thought.
Not only that.
"Actually, I think that if your story isn't finished yet, you could even add me in... Of course, don't write about what my real identity actually is."
"Just write about the interactions between Superwoman and Superman." She even volunteered herself, hoping to make a guest appearance in Ian's novel.
How should he put it?
She truly was a good cousin aunt.
She was willing to devote herself to Ian's writing career. Ian appreciated his cousin aunt's eye for talent, but after pondering for a moment, he still decided to refuse her suggestion.
"That wouldn't be appropriate."
Ian sighed with slight regret.
"Hm? Do you think Superwoman isn't as famous as your father and can't attract readers for you?" Kara threw herself onto the sofa, her tone full of dissatisfaction.
"No."
Ian shook his head.
"It's just that my story's style is rather special, so... adding Cousin Aunt might violate ethics. I'm afraid it won't pass censorship and will affect how quickly I can make money."
He gave his answer sincerely.
It sounded like he truly found it regrettable.
"?????"
Kara froze when she heard that.
Then she looked as though she had been struck by lightning, her eyes nearly bulging out of their sockets—brave Superwoman had, at that moment, somewhat lost the courage to ask what he meant.
