Background
Kushida grew up believing that her appearance and above-average ability made her exceptional. As she encountered people who surpassed her in academics and athletics, that confidence became an intense inferiority complex. She sought a form of superiority that could not be easily defeated: gaining other people’s trust. 2 3
Her friendly persona became both her greatest skill and her burden. Maintaining everyone’s confidence in her created overwhelming pressure, which she released anonymously online. When her true feelings and the people around her were exposed, she used the trust she had cultivated to turn classmates against one another; the resulting conflict ended her middle-school life. 3
Kushida enters Advanced Nurturing determined to erase that past and begin again. The Diary’s immediate identification of her inferiority, superiority complex, and hidden malice makes her fear that this fresh start has already failed. Horikita Suzune’s presence is an additional threat because they attended the same middle school. 2 3
Appearance
Kushida deliberately designed her presentation to create an excellent first impression. Her posture, expressions, and mannerisms are carefully optimized to make her appear approachable, kind, and easy to trust. 59
- Maintains a bright, sweet public smile that contrasts sharply with her unguarded demeanor. 45 48
- Is considered notably attractive among the students at Advanced Nurturing. 59
- Her carefully rehearsed smile, speech, and micro-expressions are distinctive enough for Asakusa Toru to imitate them. 122
- Her angelic wings manifest only after investing in the Angel Skill; she can conceal them when necessary. 305 306
Personality
Kushida’s central drive is superiority. She wants to be admired, trusted, and envied, and she is deeply unsettled by people who outperform her or threaten the social image she has constructed. Her kindness is genuine as a practiced social ability, but it is also a means of obtaining information, loyalty, and influence. 2 24
Behind her “Little Angel” persona, she is blunt, spiteful, calculating, and capable of exploiting another person’s trust. When overloaded by others’ expectations, she becomes aggressive and seeks isolated places to vent, having lost faith in the anonymous outlets she once relied on. 46 57
Despite her cynicism, Kushida can recognize sincerity. Horikita’s earnest request for friendship confuses her because Kushida cannot detect any falsehood in it. She eventually accepts a role as Horikita’s “mirror,” offering harsh but direct observations rather than comforting guidance. 46 47
Her growing attachment to Asakusa makes her possessive and jealous, particularly toward Ichinose Honami and Karuizawa Kei. By her second year, she values power and the ability to stand beside Asakusa more than preserving the social network she once worked so hard to build. 147 193 305

Story Role / Major Arcs
Exposure of the Two-Faced Person
The Diary identifies Kushida’s hidden nature shortly after she enrolls. When an angry message she sends is uploaded, she believes her past has been fully exposed and withdraws from school life in panic. Horikita later identifies her as both the Two-Faced Person and Handprint Sister. 2 31 42 45
Horikita’s Mirror
Horikita visits Kushida during her isolation and asks to become friends. Kushida rejects Horikita’s naïve assumptions but ultimately agrees to act as a mirror who reflects Horikita’s flaws, starting their strained friendship. 46 47
Rooftop Confrontation
After finding a rooftop she believes is private, Kushida vents openly and is discovered by Asakusa. She attempts to silence him through a fabricated assault allegation, but his recordings reverse the power dynamic and force her into a humiliating apology. 57 58 59 60
Entanglement with Asakusa
Kushida agrees to participate in Asakusa’s “psychological research,” initially treating physical closeness as a way to regain control. His refusal to act as she expects destabilizes her assumptions about relationships, and their connection gradually becomes personal and possessive. 61 62 63 66 82
Class D and Special Exams

Pursuit of Angelic Power
After learning that supernatural powers exist, Kushida becomes dissatisfied with relying on social influence alone. She invests in Angel, gains wings and healing, and resolves to grow strong enough to stand beside Asakusa after graduation. 305 306
