Background / History

Takenaka Kaguya was born into the Kaguya Clan of the Land of Water. He entered the battlefield at eight years old, survived more than one hundred battles, and became one of the Land of Water’s foremost wartime fighters. His strength was sufficient to suppress Byakuren, though the Daimyo denied him the First Mizukage position because of his youth. 243 366

During his early conflict with the Kaguya Clan, he killed an opponent and displayed the body at the clan gate. The clan besieged him afterward, and only Byakuren’s personal intervention prevented a massacre. Following the war, the clan supported Byakuren rather than Kaguya, leaving Kaguya isolated within his own bloodline. 13

He later served Kirigakure on difficult missions with a reported perfect success rate. Clients specifically requested him despite higher fees, while minor villages developed an informal practice of abandoning missions if they encountered him. 75 78

Kaguya rejected both political ambition and the Second Mizukage succession struggle, prioritizing his aunt Yuko when she was abducted. After Hozuki Gengetsu secured the Mizukage position, Kaguya left Kirigakure with Yuko; Akina Nakamori remained behind as Elder Genji’s spy. 57 79 80 83

He became the leader of Uzushiogakure, where he personally undertook dangerous missions and refused to grant privileges even to his own children. During the First Shinobi World War, he single-handedly broke Kirigakure’s force of three thousand elite ninja at sea, preventing their advance on Uzushiogakure. 135 178 244

Although estranged from the Kaguya Clan, Kaguya returned to Kirigakure when Karatachi Yagura and Black Zetsu moved to annihilate it. He cited the graves of his parents, aunt, and uncle in the clan’s ancestral land as a reason not to allow the clan’s complete destruction. 245 247

After receiving a One Piece World Access Card, Kaguya traveled to another world and eventually served as a Marine Admiral. His relationship with the Marines deteriorated after Sengoku secretly allowed him to be targeted for World Government funding. He ultimately saved civilians at Ohara, tore off his Marine cloak, and severed his ties with the Navy. 259 282 319

Appearance

Kaguya is a tall, imposing man with an “iron-tower-like” physique. Despite being over sixty, his body and appearance do not visibly age. 248 275 299

  • Retains a youthful outward appearance despite his age. 275 299
  • His presence and pressure can overwhelm experienced opponents before combat begins. 248
  • Can transform into a half-human, half-dragon state or the massive Black Divine Dragon. 257 258

Personality

Kaguya is fiercely independent and dismissive of authority he considers undeserving of respect. He refused Kirigakure’s political opportunities, rejected Whitebeard’s invitation, declined Garp’s Marine recruitment attempt, and later abandoned the Marines when their conduct conflicted with his principles. 57 79 261 319

His confidence is often expressed through mockery toward weaker opponents, but he values perseverance, loyalty, and responsibility. He patiently instructed Hyuga students in Rokushiki, praised a student’s sense of responsibility, and offered continued training rather than abandoning him for slow progress. 115

Kaguya is protective of family and civilians. Yuko is repeatedly identified as the person he will protect without hesitation, while his opposition to World Government operations stems from their harm to ordinary people. 70 116 298 314
