History
Founding of Konohagakure
Madara and Hashirama Senju fought beside one another to end the Warring States Period and establish Konohagakure. Madara contributed as much as Hashirama to the village’s founding and selected the name “Konoha,” but the villagers regarded him with fear rather than affection. 20
Though he initially shared Hashirama’s hope for peace, Madara came to consider Konoha’s stability a false peace. He refused to explain his full vision to Hashirama, studied the Sage of Six Paths’ stone tablet beneath Naka Shrine, and called on the Uchiha Clan to leave the village with him. No clansman agreed to follow him. 53
Madara overheard Tobirama Senju’s hostility toward the Uchiha and interpreted it, alongside Hashirama’s support for Tobirama as a future Hokage, as confirmation that he no longer had a place in Konoha. He departed quietly, becoming the first ninja to leave the newly founded village. 53
Conflict with Takenaka Kaguya
Madara first fought Takenaka Taketori in the Land of Fire’s southern forest. Treating the battle as a test, he escalated from taijutsu to Fire Release, the Three-Tomoe Sharingan, Mangekyō Sharingan, and Susanoo after Taketori wounded him. 3 4
When Hashirama and Tobirama arrived, Madara stopped Tobirama from executing the defeated Taketori. He argued that sparing such a talented youth would provide both himself and Hashirama with a future rival. 8
After leaving Konoha, Madara invited Takenaka Kaguya to join his plan for peace. Kaguya refused, and Madara later held Kaguya’s aunt, Yuko, in the Graveyard Mountains. Their ensuing battle forced Madara to use his Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, Susanoo, and the Uchiha forbidden art Izanami. 55 59 63
Pursuit of the Rinnegan
Madara implanted Hashirama Cells to evolve his Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan into the Rinnegan. The transplantation also enhanced his constitution and granted him access to Wood Release. 116 123 200
After awakening the Rinnegan, Madara sought revenge against Tobirama for Izuna Uchiha’s death. He used the Rinnegan against Takenaka Kaguya, but his incomplete control over its abilities left him physically outmatched. 142 144 145
Madara attacked Konoha and fought Hashirama, ultimately causing Hashirama’s death. He later critically wounded Tobirama, who eventually died from the consequences of Madara’s attack. 131 132 158 180
Final Defeat and Resurrection
Madara attacked Uzushiogakure and repeatedly clashed with Takenaka Kaguya. He summoned the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path and used Izanagi to survive a lethal strike, sacrificing Sharingan to rewrite his death. 164 170
Takenaka Kaguya defeated Madara despite his Rinnegan techniques and successive Izanagi revivals. After killing him twice more, Kaguya took Madara’s Rinnegan, cremated his body, and erected a burial mound. 172
Kaguya later summoned Madara through the Impure World Reincarnation Jutsu and sealed him alongside Hashirama to prevent Orochimaru from exploiting either of them. Madara was subsequently resurrected by Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki and compelled to oppose Kaguya during the Unification War. 250 373
Personality
Madara is intensely proud, battle-hungry, and exhilarated by capable opponents. He initially restrained himself against Taketori because he did not wish to exploit an advantage, but became increasingly animated as the fight escalated. 3
His strength isolates him. Madara openly admitted that, after the Warring States Period, only Hashirama and the promising Takenaka offered the possibility of a satisfying battle. 20
Madara’s conception of peace is uncompromising. His disillusionment with Hashirama’s approach drove him to abandon Konoha and seek allies for his own plan. As his ambitions intensified, he became willing to threaten others, abduct Yuko Kaguya, use poison against Hashirama, and sacrifice Sharingan through forbidden techniques. 53 56 124 170
Abilities & Skills
Sharingan and Mangekyō Sharingan
Madara’s ocular prowess allows him to track minute movements, anticipate attacks, see through visual concealment, and exert powerful genjutsu pressure. 4 92
- The Three-Tomoe Sharingan allowed him to match Takenaka’s close-range movements. 4
- His Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan saw through the Hidden Mist Technique. 92
- He could manifest Susanoo even after his eyes evolved into the Rinnegan. 146
- His genjutsu was less effective against opponents who avoided eye contact or possessed exceptional perception. 59 61
Susanoo
Madara’s Susanoo is a massive chakra warrior that develops through four forms and provides both overwhelming offense and defense. 61
- Its strikes carved a trench more than one hundred meters through the forest. 5
- Complete Body Susanoo could rapidly regenerate damage and wield immense chakra swords. 5 146
- Perfect Susanoo’s chakra blades could cleave through the battlefield, though Takenaka Kaguya repeatedly evaded or cut through its forms. 61 146
- Damage to Susanoo could inflict physical backlash on Madara. 61
Rinnegan
After fusing Hashirama Cells, Madara awakened the Rinnegan and gained access to high-level ocular techniques. 123 133

- Banshō Ten’in — Pulls targets toward the user, though it failed to move Kaguya when he anchored himself. 145
- Limbo: Hengoku — Creates invisible shadow clones; Kaguya’s Observation Haki allowed him to detect and defeat them. 145
- Tengai Shinsei — Summons a meteorite attack, which Kaguya destroyed. 172
- Demonic Statue of the Outer Path — Summoned as a combat asset before being split apart by Kaguya’s sword strike. 170

- Izanami — Trapped Takenaka Kaguya in a looping genjutsu for several minutes; Kaguya escaped after recognizing his true self. 63 171
- Izanagi — Rewrote Madara’s death after he was cut down, at the cost of a Three-Tomoe Sharingan. 170
- Madara carried spare Three-Tomoe Sharingan to extend his use of Izanagi. 171

- Spare Three-Tomoe Sharingan — Kept for use in forbidden techniques such as Izanagi and Izanami. 63 171
Relationships

- Tobirama Senju — Bitter enemy whom Madara blamed for Izuna’s death. Madara repeatedly condemned Tobirama’s conduct and later fatally wounded him. 8 142 158
- Takenaka Kaguya — Began as a promising rival whom Madara wanted spared and recruited. Their philosophies and Yuko’s abduction turned them into recurring enemies, culminating in Madara’s death at Kaguya’s hands. 8 55 172
- Black Zetsu — Servant, intelligence source, and adviser regarding the Rinnegan and Hashirama Cells. Madara blamed him after his defeat by Kaguya and ordered him to investigate Kaguya’s powers. 110 116
