Background / History
Shangguan Min grew up alongside Yu Qing and was part of a childhood betrothal arranged by their families. Yu Qing, isolated after her parents' deaths, considered him an older-brother-like figure and the only family she had left. Shangguan Min initially expected to inherit his family business, marry Yu Qing, and bear responsibility for both families' enterprises. 1
While still engaged to Yu Qing, he met Chu Keke at a cake shop on September 10, Yu Qing's twenty-first birthday. A series of subsequent encounters developed into an ambiguous relationship, though he never formally acknowledged Chu Keke as his partner. When pressed, he asked Chu Keke to wait for him and revealed his engagement only after she questioned why he could not publicly be with her. 51 73 87
Xiang Changge deduced that Shangguan Min had preserved the engagement partly because it could give him a claim to Yu Corporation. Yu Qing later received evidence that he had been working to infiltrate Yu Corporation through its employees. 57 87
Appearance
Shangguan Min is a tall, slender man with a handsome, sharply chiseled face. His usual bearing is severe and imposing, particularly when angered. 45
- Thin lips and intense, storm-like eyes 45
- Often wears pristine, high-end business attire 45
- Drives a black Rolls-Royce 45 69
- Following Xiang Changge's attacks, he is hospitalized with extensive bruising, casts, and later arrives at the Yu residence heavily bandaged and wheelchair-bound. 58 69
Personality
Shangguan Min is possessive and jealous in his treatment of Chu Keke. Seeing her with Wei Quan, he immediately assumed she had betrayed him, demanded that she come with him, and assaulted Wei Quan when he intervened. 45
He is calculating and evasive, attempting to keep both his engagement to Yu Qing and his relationship with Chu Keke without committing honestly to either. During the confrontation at the Yu residence, he denied knowing Chu Keke despite their history, then justified concealing his feelings by claiming the truth would endanger Yu Qing's fragile mental state. 72 73
His sense of entitlement extends to Yu Qing and Yu Corporation. After the engagement ends and Yu Qing grows closer to Xiang Changge, he interprets their relationship as Xiang Changge stealing what should have been his, ultimately deciding that if he cannot possess Yu Qing and her company, he would rather destroy them. 177
