Background / History

Shangguan Min grew up alongside Yu Qing and was part of a childhood betrothal arranged by their families. Yu Qing, isolated after her parents' deaths, considered him an older-brother-like figure and the only family she had left. Shangguan Min initially expected to inherit his family business, marry Yu Qing, and bear responsibility for both families' enterprises. 1

While still engaged to Yu Qing, he met Chu Keke at a cake shop on September 10, Yu Qing's twenty-first birthday. After returning from a business trip, Shangguan Min sees Chu Keke walking with Wei Quan and reacts with immediate jealousy. He blocks their path with his car, demands Chu Keke come with him, and beats Wei Quan. Xiang Changge intervenes and defeats Shangguan Min so severely that he requires hospitalization. 45 46

While hospitalized, Shangguan Min continues trying to retain Chu Keke. He tells her that he has no one else, asks her to wait, and only reveals his childhood engagement to Yu Qing after she challenges him. 51
