Background

The System describes itself as a product born from readers’ powerful wishes to give tragic novel characters happy endings. It operates by selecting suitable people from different planes—generally deceased individuals with unfulfilled wishes—and sending them into book worlds to complete plot-rewriting missions. It refuses to disclose its own origins. 3

Xiang Changge is its 8,802nd host. The System connected to her after her death, reconstructed a new body based on her original data, and brought her into the rewritten 2.0 version of 99 Times of Abusive Love: The CEO’s Exclusive Obsession. It selected her because she had repeatedly read the original novel, knew its plot, and met its mission criteria. 3 5

Its assigned objective is to prevent Yu Qing’s premature death, restore Yu Qing’s confidence in life, and help her live happily. Completion of the overarching mission promises Xiang Changge one unconditional wish; failure carries the threat of being struck by a meteorite. 7
