Background

Hikari was sealed away for more than a century and awakened into an era of hidden villages, where the Uchiha and Senju coexist in Konoha. Before her sealing, the Uchiha had brainwashed and tortured her into an “Uchiha Ultimate Weapon,” leaving her with hatred for both the clan and the shinobi world. Most memories from before that conditioning were lost. 34 63

When Haori encountered her, she called herself Uchiha Mumei, or “Nameless.” Recognizing that they had both been valued by the Uchiha only after demonstrating power, she formed a cautious alliance with him to destroy the clan. Her preferred solution was immediate destruction, but she accepted Haori's argument that a direct assault inside Konoha would only lead to her death. 34

Haori brought her into Konoha and later gave her the identity of Uchiha Hotaru, an orphaned, withdrawn Uchiha whose squad had not returned from a mission. The identity allowed Hikari to live within the village while learning how to interact with its people. 57

Personality

Initially, Hikari is detached, distrustful, and intensely hostile toward the Uchiha. Her first instinct is direct violence, shaped by her life as a weapon and the memories of abuse that survived her brainwashing. She is nevertheless rational enough to listen when Haori presents a practical alternative. 34

Living in Konoha changes her gradually. She follows Haori's advice to socialize, is accepted by Rin and Kakashi without exposing her true identity, and begins to value the kindness she receives from Haori's friends and the Uchiha children. 60 72
