Background / History

Konoha was founded by Senju Hashirama. Its governing ideal, the Will of Fire, later became central to disputes over the village leadership’s treatment of clans and individuals. 174 175

Following the Uchiha clan’s extermination, Anbu and Root removed the clan’s scrolls and assets from the Uchiha district to the Hokage office and Root base. The Uchiha Military Police Force was absorbed by the Sarutobi clan, while the Hyuga became Konoha’s leading clan. 2

During the Chunin Exams, Sasuke’s actions and Sunagakure’s invasion devastated the village. Families connected to Konoha’s upper ranks were massacred at the former Uchiha compound, the compound itself was burned down, and the Hokage Tower later collapsed amid the conflict involving Sarutobi Hiruzen and Shimura Danzō. 103 106 The deaths of Hiruzen, Danzō, numerous ninja, and Konoha’s advisors left the village near collapse. 108 109

Under Tsunade, Konoha entered a recovery period and issued joint warrants with Kirigakure against Uchiha Obito. 122 125 127 After the Land of Fire’s daimyō estate was destroyed, Konoha ceased to be constrained by the daimyō’s authority and became effectively independent. 166 168

Konoha was invaded again by Sasuke and Akatsuki, who destroyed its gates, attacked its shinobi, and targeted the Hyuga clan. 184 186 By this period, Kakashi had succeeded Tsunade as the Sixth Hokage. 194

Locations and Institutions

• Uchiha Clan Compound — A remote district on Konoha’s outskirts. It became desolate after the clan massacre, was later used to target the families of Konoha’s upper ranks, and was burned to the ground during the invasion. 1 3 103
• Hokage Office and Tower — The center of village administration. Uchiha assets were transferred to the office after the massacre; the tower collapsed during the conflict involving Hiruzen and Danzō. 2 106

• Uchiha Clan — Once Konoha’s premier clan and operator of the Military Police Force; exterminated in a single night, after which its territory, assets, and police force were appropriated by village leadership and the Sarutobi clan. 2
• Hyuga Clan — Became Konoha’s undisputed leading clan after the Uchiha’s fall; later suffered major losses when Sasuke captured Hiashi, Hanabi, and twenty additional Hyuga members during the invasion. 2 184
