Background / History

Before his Student Council role is formally introduced, Manabu identifies the inconsistency in Kikyo Kushida's attempt to secure a bus seat for an elderly passenger. Rather than condemn her, he concludes that her actions conflict with the altruistic persona she presents. 1

As Student Council President, Manabu oversees an organization in which the president appoints all positions other than the elected presidency. He maintains a tense ideological rivalry with Vice President Nagumo Miyabi: Manabu supports competition between collective units, while Nagumo favors individual meritocracy. 18 20

When Kijima Tsukur enters the Student Council room, Manabu is overwhelmed by the strength he senses from him and briefly loses his composure. Despite his normally imposing confidence, Manabu is highly cautious when faced with an opponent he considers beyond him.
