Kanji Ike and the others still had some sense. If they went straight to bad-mouthing Kageya Shinjitsu, they'd probably only make Kushida Kikyo angry.

That was why they'd come up with this plan.

After all, a delinquent couldn't possibly be too afraid to speak up in class and leave all the talking to the angelic Kushida. They just had to expose him.

At the very least, they could make Kushida Kikyo distance herself from Kageya Shinjitsu.

For Kanji Ike and the others, that would be a huge win.

Kanji Ike and the others thought about the future, considering how they could keep exposing Kageya Shinjitsu.

Dinner time. The school cafeteria.

Kushida Kikyo had been invited out. Sitting across from her was Karuizawa Kei, a gyaru who was a bit of a delinquent. She was a cute blonde beauty with a long ponytail.

She had a somewhat forceful personality and had formed her own clique in class. Her classmates trusted her, especially the girls.

"Karuizawa, I didn't expect you to be so direct..."

After learning why Karuizawa Kei wanted to talk to her face-to-face in private, Kushida Kikyo was quite surprised.

"You're making your move already? You've got your eye on Kageya?"

She asked with great curiosity.

Kushida Kikyo wondered if she might have a chance to learn more about Kageya Shinjitsu from Karuizawa Kei in the future.

Kushida Kikyo was the type to take action.

"???"

Kageya Shinjitsu was just about to head out for dinner when he saw the message Kushida Kikyo had sent him.

"Kageya, do you want a girlfriend?"

Looking at the text, he couldn't help wondering if his eyes were playing tricks on him.

"What's she up to now?"

Kageya Shinjitsu didn't think she was offering herself to him or anything like that.

He simply sent back a few question marks.

As soon as he replied, she called.

"Kageya, congratulations!"

"There's a girl in our class who wants your contact information."

"You're so popular~~"

A gentle female voice greeted him as soon as he answered. There was some noise in the background, as if she were in the cafeteria.

"A girl?"

"..."

Kageya Shinjitsu wondered if they were all too bored.

"That's right, a super cute girl! So, do you mind if I give her your contact info?"

Usually, as long as a guy didn't have a girlfriend, he wouldn't mind something like this.

"Hey, hey, hey~ Kageya, you're not thinking of turning her down, are you?"

"That'd be too mean. Why not meet her first? It's always good to make another friend."

"It's not every day a girl comes out and asks for your contact info. It must have taken a lot of courage."

Kushida Kikyo didn't get an answer, so she quickly added a few more things.

Her voice grew quieter, as if the person involved were standing nearby.

"Fine, give it to her, then."

It was just his contact information, and it wasn't necessarily about romance.

"Good luck!"

"She'll get in touch with you soon."

They didn't say much more. It wasn't just his phone number—someone added him on the school's messaging app, too.

After introducing herself, she wanted to meet up and talk with him. Well, two people did.

"Karuizawa Kei?"

Kageya Shinjitsu quickly figured out who the girl was.

She was the class's little gyaru and was friendly with almost all the girls.

But she didn't seem very interested in guys other than Hirata.

Why would she want to meet me?

He wondered about it until it was time to meet her.

After dinner, Kageya Shinjitsu went for a walk as usual. Once he'd had time to digest, he planned to go for a jog.

Before jogging, though, he had to meet someone.

The place was like a small park. Aside from the occasional jogger passing by, there were also a few couples enjoying some time alone.

It was a popular date spot at school, and one of the few places on campus without surveillance cameras.

Kageya Shinjitsu usually ran here, too.

Did she pick a place like this because she didn't want anyone to see us?

He stood beneath a streetlight, thinking.

"Sorry to keep you waiting."

When the appointed time arrived, the blonde girl with the ponytail showed up right on time.

She wore short black socks and a short skirt, and had her sleeves rolled up to her forearms. Her golden ponytail bounced as she moved. With her uniform worn open, she had a spirited air about her. She clearly knew how to draw people's attention.

She didn't have Kushida Kikyo's slightly plump, fleshy figure. Karuizawa Kei had a more girlish charm—petite and cute.

Karuizawa Kei had run over, and she didn't seem to have much stamina. As soon as she arrived, she braced her hands on her knees and bent over, breathing deeply.

"It's fine. I just got here, too."

*???*

His reply had been calm, but his mind was filled with suspicion.

Who are you? Have you been possessed by Kushida Kikyo? Why are you being so nice?

You're not like this in class.

Are you planning to set me up?

Kageya Shinjitsu sized her up, calculating the chances that the girl in front of him was trying to harm him.

He'd seen how unreasonable she could be in class, especially toward guys other than Hirata.

"Phew..."

"I'm Karuizawa Kei."

Hearing his response, Karuizawa Kei seemed relieved.

"I'm Kageya Shinjitsu. Nice to meet you."

Then the two fell into an awkward silence.

They stood together beneath the streetlight, neither of them speaking.

She looked at him, and he looked at her.

What is this?

Say something already. If you can't, get Kushida Kikyo to come instead.

Kageya Shinjitsu was completely baffled.

"Um, why don't we go for a walk together?"

Perhaps unable to stand the awkwardness any longer, Karuizawa Kei spoke up.

She rubbed her hands together as she made the suggestion.

"Sure."

The awkward pair slowly set off, strolling around the small park.

They looked a little like a new couple out on a date, but neither of them was making a move.

After walking for a while, they reached a dim courtyard beside the small park's lake. The surroundings were nice, if a little dark. It must have been beautiful during the day.

Now, they could make out only a few things by the light from the distant lamps and the moon.

"Um, Kageya, where are you from?"

Karuizawa Kei finally managed to get the words out.

"Chiba."

"Chiba... Um, so it really was you? The Minotaur Warrior from Chiba Middle School?"

Karuizawa Kei spoke slowly, as if she'd already made up her mind.

"Huh?"

Kageya Shinjitsu looked at her strangely.

The Minotaur Warrior?

I didn't know you were like this, Karuizawa Kei.

"Wasn't it you? Or did I get it wrong?"

"You're Kageya Shinjitsu, and you went to Chiba Middle School."

"You were the famous one, weren't you? The Minotaur Warrior who went out at night to deal with delinquents."

"Then people recognized you and reported you after you beat up a bunch of delinquents at your school."

"I can't believe you ended up at this school."

Karuizawa Kei looked at Kageya Shinjitsu seriously.

Then she told him everything she'd been thinking.

It seemed that once she'd gotten started, the rest came much more easily.
