Background and History
Karuizawa is a popular Class D student who has formed a small clique and earned the trust of many girls in her class. She usually keeps her distance from boys other than Hirata 25 33.
When Ike Kanji’s group tears Kageya Shinjitsu’s swimsuit, Karuizawa joins the girls approaching the confrontation despite appearing anxious. She later asks Kushida Kikyo about Kageya and arranges a private meeting with him through her 23 24 25. At the meeting, she recognizes him from stories about his time at Chiba Middle School and his nickname, the “Minotaur Warrior” 25 26.
Three second-year students ambush them after Karuizawa confesses to Kageya. He defeats the students but is injured, and both are questioned by the school 26 27. While visiting him in the infirmary, Karuizawa asks for an answer to her confession and reveals that she wants protection from being bullied again. Kageya declines a romantic relationship but offers to help if she agrees to act as his “tool” when he needs her; she accepts 29 30.
Following his advice, Karuizawa begins approaching academically strong classmates for help. She borrows Horikita Suzune’s notes, asks questions, shares notes with friends, and brings class notes to Kageya during his absence 33 34. By Chapter 42, she has also brought other students into a study group around Horikita 42.
