The current Heavenly Emperor was not the founder of the Heavenly Court. He had been the Old Heavenly Emperor's favored disciple before succeeding him, while the old ruler was believed to have entered the Dominion Road. 856 934 1140

He rose through the Heavenly Court as an exceptional cultivator. While still young, he entered the Annihilation Sea at the tenth stage of the lower Great Emperor realm and forcibly crossed into the upper Great Emperor realm there. 2066

The Heavenly Emperor is intensely ambitious, treating both allies and enemies as pieces in a larger pursuit of power. He sought to seize Mu Qing's perfected Starry Sky Dao, use it alongside his Devouring Dao, and gamble on a dual-Dao breakthrough that could make him ruler of an era. 1133 1192

He is detached from the lives of his subordinates. Yin Tian's death barely concerned him, and he was willing to destroy Earth and the Demon Domain to force Mu Qing into rapid growth. 1134 1192
