Sunbathing Tomorrow

Ba Di had taken another small but crucial step forward, and he pondered it quietly.

Getting on good terms with old Dean Bo Li would let the man help him with certain convenient matters. Later, he might even need Dean Bo Li to put in a good word for him before Colonel Slade, or hold Slade back. All of that was crucial.

In the Kryptonian culture Ba Di had constructed, once two people became lovers, they had to bask beneath the sun, bathing in its light to cleanse themselves of their past before beginning a life of unwavering devotion together.

This faith, much like a religious culture, was an indispensable part of the process.

It was also the easiest part for them to believe, because religious faith was not to be insulted. In the West, where personal freedom of belief was respected, this approach undoubtedly had no loopholes.

Ba Di was meticulous to the smallest detail. Every word and action was misleading, all intended to let him bask in the sun.

For so long, Ba Di had deliberately and casually instilled this "normal" Kryptonian culture into them, all so that he could reasonably sunbathe before proposing to Jenny.

Everything made it seem as though it was for Jenny, for love! I need to avoid Colonel Slade as much as possible.

Ba Di murmured inwardly. Even Slade, who had lowered his guard, would never allow Jenny to take him to the Negative First Floor of the Underground Base to bask in the sun.

One area on the Negative First Floor had been fitted with high-strength multilayer composite glass, used to collect electromagnetic waves across solar light bands such as infrared, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet, and ultraviolet, as well as convert and utilize thermal energy between spectral rays.

Simply put, it was a research area for manufacturing ray weapons.

It was the only place in the Underground Base where sunlight could still shine through, and the only place Ba Di could receive sunlight without leaving the Underground Base.

Through scattered remarks in everyday conversation, along with Jenny's words, Ba Di had learned that the entire Underground Base research institute had four levels.

The place where he was imprisoned was the Negative Fourth Floor, the lowest and most tightly guarded level.

Slade had taken Ba Di to the Negative Third Floor twice at most, where they conducted leading research on neutrinos.

During those two limited visits, he had memorized the access methods for the Negative Fourth Floor and Negative Third Floor, the personnel whose irises needed verification, and the guarded sentries.

The only people who could move freely between the Negative First Floor and Negative Fourth Floor were Jenny, old Dean Bo Li, and Slade.

He closed his eyes, resting his head against the cold wheelchair. The Pulse Radiofrequency Needle was still piercing deeply into his spinal cord, chillingly cold.

Suddenly, a pair of slender white hands reached out from behind him and gently massaged his temples. The cool voice softened with concern. "Are you tired?"

Ba Di opened his eyes, warmth flickering through them as he felt those soft hands press against his temples. "No. I was waiting for you."

Jenny knew he did not need his temples massaged. She walked from behind him to the side of the wheelchair, moved Ba Di's hands away from the armrests so they hung at his sides, then sat sideways across his lap, savoring the warm moment.

The two exchanged affectionate words. Jenny was especially passionate today, as though she wanted to melt into Ba Di.

Amid his tender words, Ba Di often casually probed for information about her research results and the entire Underground Base. Bit by bit, it came together, giving him a complete understanding of the whole base.

But what Jenny told him today made his heart tremble.

"Your cells are a little strange. They undergo subtle changes under Infrared Ray. Do cells change because of the light shining on them? Or because of the heat?" Jenny rested her head against Ba Di's shoulder and collarbone, sounding slightly puzzled.

Ba Di was instantly alarmed. He could not help being alarmed. The sun's heat reached Earth mainly through infrared rays.

The infrared rays transmitted by the sun caused certain changes in his Kryptonian genes. Simply put, Superman's so-called Heat Vision was more or less this infrared stuff.

"What did you do with it?" Ba Di asked calmly, lightly resting his head atop Jenny's, though his heart was in turmoil.

Jenny's talent was truly shocking. Ba Di felt that given a little more time, she would probably discover outright that his body changed when exposed to sunlight.

"I continuously exposed the cells to Infrared Ray and added the Gene Serum Catalyst I made earlier. We'll see what reaction there is tomorrow," Jenny said.

Tomorrow!

If Dean Bo Li and the others learned tomorrow that his cells had changed, they would likely investigate it deeply. Then he would have no chance in the future.

Ba Di's heart went cold! He had never imagined that with everything going so smoothly, the greatest problem would be Jenny being too much of a genius!

No!

He had to act as soon as possible.

Once tomorrow came and the others saw the results of that sustained Infrared Ray exposure, Ba Di would truly lose his freedom.

Although Infrared Ray was not real sunlight—real sunlight also contained orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet, ultraviolet, and other light bands—concentrated infrared exposure alone would still cause slight reactions in his cells.

What was more, Jenny had directly exposed them to Infrared Ray for an entire night!! Even if the reaction was not intense, Ba Di could foresee that they would continue testing exposure to other rays.

Experiments were meant to be rigorous and bold, leaving no detail unchecked.

Now they had begun noticing this point.

It truly made Ba Di's heart pound in alarm. Jenny really was a genius. He had originally planned to make use of Dean Bo Li and at least prepare everything, waiting to see which day Slade was absent before deciding to act.

But now, it seemed he had to move earlier.

His preliminary groundwork and preparations were nearly complete anyway.

Acting a little early might be somewhat rough, but it did not matter.

"Tomorrow, can you take a day off and bathe in the glory of the sun with me?" Ba Di asked lovingly, deciding that he would begin acting tomorrow.

Jenny froze. After Ba Di had instilled so much Kryptonian culture into her, of course she understood what bathing in the sun meant.

He was proposing!

Tears of surprise instantly welled from Jenny's tear ducts, and her emotion could not be contained.

Jenny was overwhelmed with surprise and emotion. "I'm willing!"

"Ba Di, I'm willing!"

Jenny hugged Ba Di tightly, unable to contain her excitement as tears streamed down her face.

"Ba Di, I love you."

"No matter what happens, I love you."

"Even if I had to trade my life for yours, I would be willing."

"I love you so much, Ba Di."

Ba Di closed his eyes, his cheek brushing against Jenny's emotional skin as the delicate fragrance of her body seeped into his nose. His heart was ice-cold.

Is that so?
