The next morning, at nine o'clock.

At this hour, the sun would rise in the east, spreading its golden light.

Ba Di only hoped it would not be cloudy today, blocking his hope. No one wished more than he did to see the sun and let it shine upon him.

The sun was the vitality of all things.

It was also his vitality.

More importantly, it was the source of a Kryptonian's power.

He had not slept all night. After Jenny left the room, he had closed his eyes as though resting, knowing that he should rest.

But Jenny had spent the entire night exposing his cells to infrared rays in her laboratory. Combined with the reactions that the Gene Serum Catalyst might produce, even he had no way of knowing what the outcome would be.

But it certainly would not be a good one.

Even the slightest reaction would be enough to make Ba Di lose everything.

Unable to sleep with his eyes closed throughout the night, he forcibly practiced the Meditation Technique, thoroughly calming himself.

The White Room's incandescent lights cast a blinding white glare. Ba Di opened his eyes, his gaze as warm as spring. Anyone could see the delight in his eyes—the beautiful joy of soon joining with the woman he loved most.

Jenny opened the door and entered, a springlike smile on her lips. She naturally knew what Ba Di wanted to do, and her heart leaped with joy, making her cold, beautiful face glow with vibrant happiness.

For the rare occasion, she wore a vivid red, figure-hugging gown. Its narrow waist clung to her like an enchantress's, accentuating her graceful curves and full, swelling peaks in a bewitchingly alluring display.

She was a bewitching beauty capable of driving men mad.

Used to Jenny's usual cool-toned clothing, Ba Di could not help holding his breath at the sight of this passionate, uninhibited, sexy, icy beauty.

Ba Di's reaction delighted Jenny immensely. Accompanied by a fragrant breeze, she walked behind his wheelchair and began guiding it forward.

Ba Di lavishly praised the breathtakingly beautiful Jenny. Sweet nothings flowed between them without pause, and the charming atmosphere was warmly intimate.

"I'll first take a look at the results from yesterday's infrared exposure." Jenny guided the wheelchair toward her laboratory. She had always been concerned about the experiment concerning whether Ba Di would be able to move again, and she felt deeply guilty about the paralysis she had caused.

Ba Di's heart sank slightly, but he could not let Jenny go check. He stopped her. "Today belongs to the two of us. Leave it to someone else for now!"

Jenny hesitated only briefly before giving up on going to the laboratory. Whether it was her attire or the special significance of what Ba Di intended to do today, neither was suitable.

She loved hearing Ba Di speak, loved it deep in her heart.

"All right. I'll notify Dean Bo Li to inspect it later," Jenny replied with a smile.

But Ba Di's heart sank even further. Having old Dean Bo Li inspect it would be even more fatal than Jenny doing so, but it could only be this way. After all, someone had to push him into the sunlight.

After leaving the White Room and proceeding only a short distance down the corridor, they unexpectedly ran into old Dean Bo Li.

Seeing Jenny in her stunning gown, old Dean Bo Li could not help sweeping an ambiguous gaze over Ba Di's face. He gave him a meaningful smile.

"Dean Bo Li, in the laboratory, I'm using infrared rays to expose Ba Di's cells for Gene Serum Catalyst synthesis. Some changes may occur, so I need you to keep an eye on it."

Jenny spoke without ceremony. Even before her superior, she was blunt and direct, never considering that her tone was practically an order.

Dean Bo Li had long known that Jenny was this sort of person. Only someone like that could devote herself wholeheartedly to biological research, achieve great accomplishments, and produce remarkable results.

Then have those results used on himself.

"All right. You two... where are you going?" Dean Bo Li agreed, then asked in confusion. Jenny was dressed more beautifully today than she had been in years.

"I'm taking Ba Di to bask in the sun." Jenny glanced sweetly at Ba Di as she spoke.

Old Dean Bo Li was somewhat stunned. The only place in the Underground Base where one could bask in the sun was by the light-admitting glass on the Negative First Floor.

They had always intentionally or unintentionally kept Ba Di's movements restricted below the Negative Fourth Floor to prevent any accidents.

Even when he went up to the Negative Third Floor, Slade would accompany him vigilantly, reluctant to let Ba Di leave the Negative Fourth Floor.

Now, not only did he want to pass the Negative Second Floor, he wanted to go directly to the Negative First Floor. That did not seem ideal.

Old Dean Bo Li felt a trace of concern, but then he glanced at Ba Di, paralyzed in his wheelchair. Above the Negative First Floor was a military base, patrolled by troops and sealed tight with armed soldiers. Even a fly would struggle to get in, much less escape from the Underground Research Institute.

Ba Di's eyes shifted slightly. He knew old Dean Bo Li had some concerns.

"Dean Bo Li, about what you promised me yesterday..."

Ba Di's smile was meaningful yet harmless, as though he were merely asking—jokingly asking—about something Dean Bo Li had promised him.

As if suddenly remembering, old Dean Bo Li immediately dismissed his concerns. He took a small red box from his lab coat pocket and placed it on Ba Di's lap. "I didn't forget. It's here."

The Underground Base was tightly guarded, and not even a fly could enter the military base aboveground. He was also paralyzed in a wheelchair, so it was absolutely impossible for him to escape or cause any disturbance within the Underground Base.

Thus, there was no harm in granting this small kindness.

It was neither a threat nor a plea, merely Ba Di's subtle grasp of Dean Bo Li's psychology.

Ba Di had used the nonexistent treasury key to imply that Dean Bo Li should keep a secret. In return, Dean Bo Li would fulfill a small, harmless wish for him.

It was not a transaction, merely a subtle and friendly little act of mutual assistance.

When someone was hesitating over whether to refuse, if you reminded him of something he had previously agreed to do, he would subconsciously turn his current hesitation into agreement as well.

Naturally, that hesitation could not be too intense, or it would not carry over into consent.

Since there was no danger, and it was only a small favor, why not?

That was exactly how Dean Bo Li felt now.

"Bless you both," Dean Bo Li congratulated them. He also knew Ba Di was about to carry out some Kryptonian religious ritual involving basking in the sun, but he did not stop him.

Because it was only basking in the sun.

What reason could there possibly be to stop someone from basking in the sun?

"Thank you." Ba Di smiled and thanked him, sincerely—more sincerely than at any previous moment.

Jenny looked at the little red box, tears welling in her eyes as joy beyond words filled her. She wished she could melt into Ba Di's body. She loved him too much.

Dean Bo Li parted from them and headed straight for Jenny's laboratory to deal with Ba Di's cells under the infrared rays.

Ba Di felt a little anxious inside and could only forcefully suppress it.

He had no idea what Dean Bo Li would think when he saw that strange reaction.

Even Ba Di himself did not know what kind of reaction would occur. He only hoped this unexpected situation would keep them from realizing that he could grow stronger simply by basking in the sun.

Overjoyed, Jenny guided the wheelchair toward the elevator.

The Underground Base had stairs and elevators connecting its levels. Ba Di's condition made it utterly impossible for him to use the stairs.

They passed several armed guards stationed along the corridors, and even armed soldiers stood watch before the elevator doors.

Jenny's clearance was sufficient to take him to the Negative First Floor. So long as they did not go aboveground, she had the authority to move freely between the levels of the Underground Base.

Though her attire drew sidelong glances and she was pushing a wheelchair, after a few routine questions, the soldiers finally let them pass, allowing Jenny to take Ba Di up to the Negative First Floor to bask in the sun.

The elevator descended heavily from the surface to the Negative Fourth Floor. But when its doors opened, the person who stepped out made Ba Di's heart sink.

"Where... are you going?" Slade strode out of the elevator, blocking their path. His eagle-like gaze swept over Jenny's beautiful, vivid figure before his eyes flicked toward Ba Di.
