The red phantom rushed up the fire escape, its blurry red form on the ladder raising a hand. A powerful bio-magnetic attraction pulled a person into Barry's grasp.
The survivor was still terrified from being on the balcony. In the blink of an eye, they were dozens of meters away from Barry's dangerous zone.
He was stunned.
Then it felt like a gust of wind blew past, and suddenly there were over a dozen people around him.
In just two to three seconds, everyone saw more than a dozen people fly out from the balcony and, as if teleporting, appear dozens of meters away.
"What was that, the red thing saved them!!"
"It's God, it's God, it's a miracle."
"It was a blurry red figure!"
"It looked like lightning flashed... and they were saved."
The onlookers shouted. This was a miracle, a wonder, a supernatural event!
"Run further away! The building is going to collapse!"
The floors slowly tilted, starting to give way.
A red phantom darted onto the balcony.
Once inside, Barry felt the floor tilt, his feet sliding downwards bit by bit. The slanted corridor made it hard to keep his footing.
He couldn't stop. If he stopped, he wouldn't be able to build up speed and would be buried alive here.
Barry raced down the tilted corridor. In less than a second, he reached the room of the child Lin Li had mentioned.
But his mind went blank. The room was a mess, filled with rubble. The ceiling had burst, exposing twisted rebar. The bed was tilted in a corner, smashed by debris. The wardrobe was almost buried, everything a chaotic mess. The room looked like the aftermath of the apocalypse.
Seeing this state, his mind went blank because there was no child here.
But Lin Li and Cisco had said they detected life signs.
In his super-speed mode, almost everything around him was frozen.
His mind began to race, working frantically.
Where?
Where?
Where?
Almost all the survivors were by the windows or on the balconies, but there was one small figure curled up inside the room.
Curled up?
Barry looked towards the wardrobe crushed by the rubble.
He rushed straight to the wardrobe. The tilting floor gave him a sense of urgency. Barry punched directly, smashing the wardrobe open.
A white child was curled up inside.
Barry pulled the child out and sprinted out of the tilting building at top speed.
The red phantom placed the child among the crowd and sped away.
"Rumble..."
The building collapsed, kicking up a cloud of dust.
Barry, still running, stopped in an empty alley.
He panted heavily, his heart pounding wildly. He had almost been buried in rubble moments ago. The sloped ground made it hard to exert force, especially when he stopped to break open the wardrobe to save the child. The sudden stop almost made him lose momentum.
It was his first time running on such a tilted surface. The environment offered no leverage, almost preventing him from running. But thankfully, he succeeded, saving over a dozen lives.
When Cisco and Lin Li saw the red dot on the 3D model moving rapidly outside on the screen, Their clenched hearts finally relaxed.
Cisco and Lin Li excitedly high-fived each other.
"The Flash is amazing."
Cisco said happily.
Before Barry and Lin Li could reply, Caitlin's voice came from behind Cisco.
"What are you guys doing?"
Caitlin suddenly walked into the control room, asking in confusion.
She had heard Cisco and Lin Li sounding very excited, their voices carrying far.
Cisco's heart sank. He quickly shut off all the screens. He knew Caitlin strongly opposed Barry being The Flash.
"What are you guys doing? Cisco? Why did you turn off the screens? Lin Li, aren't you supposed to be training in the basement? What were you talking about, The Flash?"
Caitlin asked suspiciously, firing off questions.
Cisco nervously stammered, "We... we... we are further researching Lin Li's control over electricity. What Flash? We were discussing lightning, not The Flash."
Lin Li nodded with a serious, earnest expression. He was telling the truth, and it was a great bluff.
"Barry's excited voice came through the speaker, 'Cisco, Lin Li, I did it! I saved the kid! This is great.'"
Awkward…
Extremely awkward…
Caitlin glared at Cisco and Lin Li, her face dark.
She snatched the microphone and said, "Barry, it's Caitlin."
Barry's excited voice cut off abruptly, followed by a dry chuckle, "Hey, Caitlin, good morning! Have you had breakfast?"
Lin Li could already imagine how helpless Barry must have felt, his voice cracking into fal Squeaky registers.
"Get back to STAR Labs immediately."
Caitlin said coldly.
Then she turned and glared fiercely at Lin Li, who easily shrugged to diffuse the situation.
Cisco could only nod repeatedly under her glare, though he didn't know why he was nodding. As he kept nodding, he started humming a song to himself.
Barry zipped back to STAR Labs, trailing yellow lightning.
"Are you guys crazy? This outfit is definitely your masterpiece, Cisco."
Caitlin said with a cold face.
Cisco looked a bit embarrassed, as he was about to be praised. He said sheepishly, "Lin Li also helped make it, so it's not all me. Of course, the overall concept is mostly my credit."
Lin Li had a look like he'd been through hell. "Dude, don't bring me into this. I only added two small parts."
"Who do you think you are? You'll get yourself killed like this."
Caitlin said indignantly.
Cisco finally picked up on Caitlin's tone and said, "I'm responsible for monitoring everything. Barry acts to save people, and Lin Li provides technical support and advice. We're very proficient, and it's going well. There are no problems at all."
Lin Li felt like he'd been run over by thirty thousand huskies. "Damn it, I just happened to participate with you guys. Don't make me sound like a veteran."
Barry also chimed in, "Caitlin, you don't need to worry at all. I'm incredibly fast, nothing can hurt me. I can save lives. Just now, Cisco, Lin Li, and I saved over a dozen lives, OK? Without us, they would have died. Do you want to see them die?"
"You'll be killed by your own abilities."
Caitlin said sternly.
"Can you say something?"
Dr. Wells emerged, pushed in his wheelchair. If he had known this would happen, he wouldn't have greeted Caitlin when he saw her on the way.
Dr. Wells actually wanted Barry to be The Flash. After all, this was the future. Changing things would be disastrous. It had taken so long for the future to finally start to stabilize.
"I think what Caitlin means is that since we're just beginning to understand your body's abilities, we have no idea what the consequences of your frequent actions will be. So, Barry, it's best for you to be cautious and restrained."
