Background / History

When Barry was eleven, he witnessed a lightning-like figure murder his mother. His father, Henry Allen, was arrested for the crime and imprisoned in Iron Heights despite Barry's belief in his innocence. Barry spent fourteen years investigating abnormal cases in hopes of finding his mother's killer and clearing Henry's name. 13

Barry was struck by lightning during the particle-accelerator incident and fell into a coma. Upon awakening, he discovered his super-speed and went to S.T.A.R. Labs for answers, where he met Lin Li and learned that he was a meta-human. 3 5 6

He chose to use his abilities to fight crime, protect Central City, and prevent others from suffering as his family had. Cisco initially proposed the name “The Streak,” but Lin Li suggested “The Flash,” which Barry accepted. 11 12
