Evil Eye Tyrant—Joker
A moment later, Leng Yaozhu ended her conversation with Yun Ming and put down the phone. She asked sternly,
"Wuji, I agree with your idea, but have you considered that going to an ordinary school like any other Soul Master would only waste your time?"
During her conversation with Yun Ming, he had agreed with Qiangu Wuji's idea and praised him without reservation, saying that she had raised a fine son.
Leng Yaozhu had naturally been delighted to hear that, but after hanging up, she'd thought of a very practical problem.
With her son's talent, sending him to an ordinary Soul Master school to learn from ordinary teachers would simply be a waste of time.
That left her hesitant.
Qiangu Wuji glanced at her and roughly guessed what she was thinking. He shook his head and said,
"But I think it's necessary, Mom. You don't want to see me grow up and become the Spirit Pagoda's leader, someone everyone criticizes, do you?"
"Mm, I understand." Leng Yaozhu nodded, then shifted the conversation. "But understanding doesn't mean I'm going to leave you to it. How about this: agree to one condition, and if you can meet it, I'll let you make your own decisions."
"What condition?"
Qiangu Wuji straightened up, his expression turning serious as well.
Leng Yaozhu enunciated each word.
"Within two years, you must reach level twenty and obtain a purple Soul Ring. Otherwise, you'll follow my arrangements without complaint."
Level twenty within two years?
Qiangu Wuji thought it over. Reaching that level would be easy. The only real challenge was getting a purple Soul Ring.
In other words, he'd need to undergo Spirit Ascension at least once in the next two years.
That would indeed be pretty difficult.
But he wasn't worried. After all, he still had the system.
If his guess was right, the system was a hot-tempered thing that got riled up at the drop of a hat.
Once he found Tang Wulin, all he'd need to do was provoke the guy a little.
Wouldn't his strength shoot up in no time?
Besides, Gu Yue, a God King undergoing reincarnation, was right there with him. Surely being provoked now and then was perfectly normal?
Having thought it through, he stopped hesitating and nodded.
"All right, Mom. I agree."
Leng Yaozhu nodded, then stood up and smiled as she tapped him on the forehead.
"Since you've promised me, don't disappoint me."
Then she added,
"How about this? I'll arrange for you to attend a Soul Master school over in the West Sea."
She'd originally intended to find her son a teacher and have him enroll at Shrek at the same time. But since he'd refused, she'd have to arrange another school.
The West Sea was a decent choice. Its teaching staff ranked among the better ones in the Federation, without being as absurdly strong as Shrek's.
"Mom, I'm not planning to go to the West Sea. I want to attend Red Mountain Academy on the East Coast."
"Red Mountain Academy?" Leng Yaozhu paused. "The East Coast?"
"That's right."
Qiangu Wuji nodded, his eyes shining.
That was the first school Tang Wulin had attended. If he went there, he'd definitely run into him.
And if he met that guy, perhaps the system would get provoked when Tang Wulin showed off some kind of cheat ability, then evolve or something...
Seeing the eager look in his eyes, Leng Yaozhu hesitated.
"The East Coast may be wealthy, but its teaching staff are the weakest in the entire Federation. If you go there, won't you...?"
"It's fine, Mom. Didn't I say I wanted to start from the very bottom?"
Leng Yaozhu was speechless.
"Ah!"
She sighed and rubbed her forehead in resignation.
"You, honestly..."
She waved a weary hand and headed for the door.
"All right, I understand. I'll make the arrangements. You can head over in a couple of days."
Soon, she was gone, and the room fell quiet again. Qiangu Wuji let out a breath and flopped onto the bed.
That was settled. Now there shouldn't be any trouble.
He hadn't wanted to go to that lousy place, Aolai City, in the first place. Shrek would definitely be more comfortable. But he had to give this a try and see whether the system worked the way he thought it did—whether getting provoked would make it push itself to improve.
Looking across the entire continent, the only ones likely to provoke the system were Tang Wulin and Gu Yue.
So he had to go find Tang Wulin.
Speaking of the system, Qiangu Wuji remembered the Soul Spirit he'd absorbed that morning.
At the thought, he closed his eyes as Soul Power flowed through his body. A faint golden glow appeared before him, and then the tiny Evil Eye Tyrant, which looked like a chrysanthemum, appeared on his shoulder.
Qiangu Wuji glanced at the little thing. No matter how he looked at it, its appearance was simply unbearable.
If he had to describe it, it looked like a human anus.
Anyway, it was painfully ugly.
Thinking that he'd have to keep the thing with him for the rest of his life made him cringe.
"You're so ugly. I'll call you Joker from now on."
Bored, Qiangu Wuji decided to tease it.
"If you don't say anything, I'll take that as a yes."
The Evil Eye Tyrant was silent.
"Good. From today on, your name is Joker."
Qiangu Wuji chuckled, then sprang upright. A yellow Soul Ring rose from beneath his feet.
Of his three Martial Souls, only his Body Martial Soul had been given a Soul Ring. The others were still blank slates for now.
He'd chosen his Body Martial Soul as his main Martial Soul after giving it a great deal of thought.
A Body Martial Soul was part of one's own body, so it had the highest compatibility. What was more, his Body Martial Soul had been granted by the system and strengthened once when it had "risen to the challenge." There was no doubt it was powerful.
The First Soul Ring of his Body Martial Soul granted him the same Soul Skill as Huo Gua: Spiritual Detection. He hadn't tried it out yet, though, so he didn't know if it would work like Huo Gua's.
Thinking of this, Qiangu Wuji decided to give it a try. He closed his eyes and silently repeated the words in his mind.
Spiritual Detection!
In an instant, the Soul Ring shone brightly. Then images of his surroundings suddenly appeared in his mind, rendered in black and white, like a three-dimensional floor plan. Everything within a ten-meter radius was displayed before him.
It was truly a view without blind spots. He could even see clearly underneath the bed.
So this was his first Soul Skill?
After testing it for a while, Qiangu Wuji was a little dissatisfied. The view covered every direction, but the range was far too small.
Would he only be able to see this far when fighting someone?
He'd probably get beaten black and blue before he could spot anything.
It would be great if the range could be extended.
"Huh? What's this?"
Just as he thought that, he was surprised to see the image in his mind begin to contract, changing from a circle into a cone.
The distance he could see soon passed ten meters, then twenty, thirty, fifty, and finally a full hundred meters!
"It can do that too?"
Qiangu Wuji was surprised, but then his expression turned strange.
A scene had appeared in his mind: a young girl's bedroom.
Gu Yue was sitting on the bed. Before her, a mysterious figure in a black cloak was kneeling on one knee.
As if sensing something, the black-clad figure suddenly looked up, a terrifying glint flashing in their eyes.
"Who's there?!"
Qiangu Wuji jumped in fright and hurriedly cut off Spiritual Detection.
