Background / History
The Green Robe Old Man was refined by his first master tens of thousands of years ago and had served more than fifty masters. He considers the accumulated experience from those masters his greatest value. At some point, he became sealed in the Ghost Nurturing Jar for more than ten thousand years; the vessel was later damaged, leaving him severely weakened. 4 5 8
Wei Suo awakened him after acquiring the jar. Their first encounters were hostile: the Old Man demanded Fire Earth Dragon or Fire Scorpion blood, while Wei Suo mocked his helplessness and refused to be intimidated. Since the broken jar limited him to controlling its functions, he was forced to negotiate rather than overpower Wei Suo. 3 4
Their arrangement became mutually beneficial. The Old Man supplied talisman formulas, pill recipes, ancient maps, artifact knowledge, and cultivation-world advice; Wei Suo provided blood and resources to sustain him and agreed to help him condense a physical form. 5 9 12
His eventual body requires rare materials, including Moon Immortal Grass, Golden Crow Fruit, and Silver Star Stone. Wei Suo later sought these materials across the Cloud Spirit Continent, while the Old Man revealed that some might be found in the Zhang family's ancestral tomb. 687 693 1012
Appearance
The Green Robe Old Man normally manifests as a floating mass of green light or green flame before assuming the form of an elderly man. His manifestation is tied to the condition of his vessel and elemental-energy reserves. 25 68
- Emerges from the Ghost Nurturing Jar as a verdant humanoid figure. 68
- Can transform back into green flame to enter restrictions or return to his vessel. 25
- Initially avoids daylight because solar fire damages his vital energy. 875
- Gains the ability to remain active during the day after entering the Immortal Tears jar. 1034
Personality
The Old Man is proud, irritable, and deeply protective of his reputation as an ancient artifact spirit. He frequently belittles Wei Suo's ignorance and recklessness, particularly when Wei Suo wastes materials, takes avoidable risks, or improvises dangerous refining methods. 4 6 879
Despite his gruffness, he becomes a reliable mentor and partner. He shares valuable knowledge, warns Wei Suo about hidden threats, and shows concern for his progress and survival. His advice often favors caution, preparation, and decisive action against future enemies. 109 179 218
He is also notably enthusiastic about markets, auctions, and valuable materials. His desire to go shopping is strong enough that he is willing to risk elemental-energy loss by appearing during the day. 875
