Government and Society

• Camelot was founded without an emperor, king, or noble class; its highest office is the Chief Administrator. Its policies are portrayed as favorable to commoners and hostile to the privileges of traditional nobility. 81

History

Camelot emerged when the New Army occupying Heaven Dou's Northern Border declared independence. The former Northern Border population became Camelot's first citizens, while Ling Qianye—known as the Eternal Night Douluo—became Chief Administrator. 81

Over roughly two years, Camelot fought southward through Heaven Dou territory until reaching the border of the Star Dou Great Forest. Its territory linked the Extreme North to the forest and divided the ring-shaped Heaven Dou Empire into two sections; expansion then temporarily stopped. 81

Camelot publicly promoted Paladin cultivation instead of monopolizing it, selling Knight Holy Pillars and explaining the Oath Emblem system to outside factions. This initially drew interest, but major powers began boycotting the system after many applicants failed to become effective Paladins while successful candidates often left for Camelot. 81

Camelot later prepared to absorb the remaining half of Heaven Dou territory, with its leadership declaring that the rest of Tiandou would become Camelot land. 152 During the war with the Star Luo Empire, Star Luo forces fought Camelot while Dai Tianling and the deposed Xue Beng watched from the city walls. 500

Paladin System

The Paladin profession is Camelot's defining institution. Paladins retain Martial Souls and spirit rings, but use an Oath Emblem to form Soul Contracts with Spirit Beasts rather than hunting them for rings. Their spirit rings can exceed ordinary Spirit Master limits, and some Paladins may gain rings upon breaking through during battle. 81

The Oath Emblem is forged through the Eight Oaths. A candidate needs at least one of the eight virtues—humility, honesty, compassion, valor, justice, sacrifice, honor, or loyalty—to forge one successfully. 229

Each rank corresponds to an equivalent Spirit Master level, but Paladins are regarded as substantially stronger than Spirit Masters at the same level and are capable of fighting above their rank. 81

Oath Emblems and Soul Contracts

• Soul Contracts allow Paladins and Spirit Beasts to cooperate without the usual practice of hunting beasts for spirit rings. 81
• The system can be practiced by people with poor innate spirit power or even no innate spirit power. 81
• Paladin candidates require compatible temperament as well as an emblem. Many ordinary Spirit Masters who forged emblems either could not find a Spirit Beast partner or experienced weakened spirit power, slower cultivation, and inferior combat ability. 81
• Failed forging can have severe consequences. Yu Xiaogang failed every oath and was left physically disfigured after his Oath Emblem forging failed. 119 229

Combat Methods

• Light Cannon — Paladins can channel the power of their Spirit Beast partners into beam-like attacks. A single shot can reportedly knock down a defensive-type Spirit Emperor regardless of the Paladin's rank. 78 81
• Spirit Armor — Paladin-exclusive armor that radiates spirit power; large groups of Paladins have manifested oversized illusory wings of light while deployed. 220

• Camelot operates the Soul Net, though its early network did not separate private and public information; material uploaded to it could be viewed by all Camelot citizens. 117
